Italy ISD bands host annual Christmas concert
Christmas music filled the air at George Scott Memorial Gymnasium this past Thursday evening as the Italy ISD bands held their Christmas concert.
The sixth grade band, junior high band and high school band played several songs prior to a community-wide pep rally for the football team.
The sixth grade band began the event by performing Go Tell Aunt Rhodie, an American folk song and Jingle Bells by J.S. Pierpont.
The junior high band performed Deck the Halls with Rock ‘n’ Roll by Fraley and Atlantis by McGinty. The band had help from an elf, Lee Joffre, with Diary of a Grumpy Elf (‘Twas the week before Christmas) by Fraley.
Jesus Perez, band director, introduced three students who competed in Junior High All Region contest – Vanessa Cantu, Sarah Levy and Blake Brewer.
The high school band performed two songs they are preparing for the spring contest season – Monterey March by LaPlante and A Childhood Hymn by Holsinger. They concluded the concert with White Christmas by Berlin/Edmondson, Angels in the Bleak midwinter by Clark and Scherzo for Santa by Conaway.
Perez introduced two students who competed in the High School All Region contest – Alexis Sampley and Trevor Davis.
He also introduced the seniors: Morgan Junkin, Reid Jacinto, John Hughes, Yonathan Davila, Timothy Fleming, Gus Allen, Zachary Latimer and Brett Kirton.
