Band boosters getting busy with upcoming fundraisers
The Italy Gladiator Regiment Booster Club held an informational meeting Monday evening in the high school cafeteria.
Mark Stiles, band booster president, updated parents about upcoming events and fundraisers.
Jesus Perez, band director, said several band members from the middle school and high school will compete in the Central Texas Honor Band auditions this month. Middle school students will compete Friday, January 18 at Academy Middle School. High school auditions will be held Wednesday, January 23, at Reisel High School. Those who are chosen to the honor bands will perform on Saturday, January 26, at McGregor.
In other events, Stiles said the boosters will be in charge of concessions for the UIL junior high academic competition to be held at the high school February 2. Volunteers are needed, in two hour increments, to work in the concession stand from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The band and boosters will host its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday, February 16, at the Uptown Café. Clover Stiles volunteered to chair the annual fundraiser.
Another fundraiser is a donkey basketball game scheduled for Saturday, April 6. Stiles, event chair, said there will be two games and volunteers will be needed to work the concession stand.
A scholarship committee was formed prior to adjournment. Elmerine Bell will chair the committee which consists of Albert Garcia Jr., Amanda Lusk and Stiles. Perez will be an ex-officio member.
