Band boosters discuss upcoming events, fundraisers
The Italy Band Boosters recently held a meeting planning upcoming fundraisers, scholarships and upcoming events for band students.
Jesus Perez, band director, briefly outlined upcoming UIL events for the junior high and high school band members. He said a high school band day trip is scheduled May 23. Final plans have not been finalized.
Perez said 21 students made the Centex Honor Band recently in McGregor. He said it was the first time that many local students were chosen for the competition.
He said a spring concert for all three bands is planned for mid to late May.
The band director proposed a possible true summer band camp with full days of training. He has not decided on a location but wanted to have it about the first part of August. He said this would take a financial commitment of about $75 to $100 per student but felt it might be worth it for students.
Perez also discussed a possible band trip for the end of the 2013/2014 school year. He said a few of the locations being considered are New York, Philadelphia or Washington, DC. He said the cost would be approximately $600 per students and would include a minimum of three nights.
Mark Stiles, band booster president, introduced Elmerine Bell, chair of the scholarship committee. The group went over the list of senior students who might be eligible for the band booster scholarship.
Amanda Droll, band booster treasurer, reported the band’s recent spaghetti dinner garnered the band about $4,500. The band has a balance of about $10,700.
Stiles outlined the upcoming donkey basketball fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, April 6.
There will be three games – two games between four teams with a playoff game between the two winning teams. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door.
The next meeting of the band boosters is set for March 21 at 6 p.m.
