School board renews teacher contracts, accepts resignations

The Italy School Board of Trustees spent more than an hour-and-a-half in executive session Monday evening discussing educator contract renewals.

The board tabled the contract for Sharon Davis, high school counselor; and accepted the resignations from Richard Harvel, Brandon Duncan, Jessika Robinson, Matthew Patterson and Nate Skelton.

The trustees renewed contracts for Jennifer Aguado, Cheryl Allen, Leslie Allen, Dora Bassett, Melissa Bedard, Rena Bowden, Marilyn Briar-Seidlitz, Brian Coffman, Lindsey Coffman, Beverly Cox, Margie Davis, Octavia Dorazil and, Sharan Farmer. Others are Melissa Fullmer, Matthew Godwin, Dianna Hamilton, Rochelle Helner, Catherine Hewett, Melinda Hines, Casey Holden, Kristi Holley, Susan Jacinto, Angela Janek, Jeanette Janek, Paula Mandrell, April Mathers, Amy McCleskey, Jane Medrano, Erica Miller, Charlotte Morgan, Kimberly Nelson, Peri Patterson, Jesus Perez, Debra Prowell, Tina Richards, Dwayne Rowe, Jan Shepard, Charla Sparks, Holly Spraberry, Lindsey Thompson, Megan Threadgill, Josh Ward, Kim Watkins, Tracy Williams, Andi Windham and Teresa Young.

In other business, Mark Stiles suggested board members pick members of the community to discuss a possible school bond package. He said the district needs to think about how they are going to grow the Italy school district.

To start the meeting, Ms. Seidlitz, art teacher, recognized 10 students who participated in various art shows. They include Anna Riddle, Joseph Sage, Alana Estrada, Marisol Rincom Morales and Gus Allen at the high school. Junior high honorees were Kylee Dabney, Sarah Burroughs, Elizabeth Estrada, Gabriel Gutzman and Rocky Havens.

School board members received hand-painted gladiator pictures in appreciation for their support.

Current student enrollment is 518. The refined average daily attendance is 501.97.

They also approved the consent agenda, TASB Update 96 and budget amendments.

Prior to adjournment Stiles requested Barry Bassett, superintendent, return next month with a proposal to purchase two vehicles – a Suburban and vehicle. He said the current vehicles have too many miles on them to be reliable. He also said he would like to see the trustees move forward with the purchase of a bus.
