Charles Tindol named IHS athletic director
Charles Tindol, newly-hired offensive coordinator at Italy High School, was upgraded to athletic director and head football coach at a special meeting of the school board of trustees Tuesday evening.
Following a 40-minute executive session, the trustees reconvened into open session. Cheryl Owen, school board member, said she and six others interviewed several candidates for the position following the sudden resignation of Hank Hollywood, athletic director. She said the committee consisted of Barry Bassett, superintendent; Lee Joffre, high school principal; Jonathan Nash, Stafford Elementary principal; Albert Garcia Jr., athletic booster club member; Richard Cook and James Johnson, community members. Owen said the group came out of the interviews in agreement.
After the unanimous vote by the school board, Tindol thanked the board for their support, noting that he was humbled by the decision. Tindol said he and his wife are looking for a place to call home.
Tindol comes to Italy from Iola where he coached two years. He grew up in Coahoma, Texas, and played football on a full scholarship at Abilene Christian University. He also coached at Abilene Christian High School as head football and track coach. He has also coached at Early High School and Big Lake in Reagan County.
