The Italy School Board of Trustees hired Jennifer Eaglen of Waxahachie as the Family Consumer Science Teacher at a special meeting held Tuesday evening in the administration office.

Following the opening session, the trustees immediately went into executive session and returned into open session about an hour later.

Lee Joffre, high school principal, said a committee reviewed the candidates and said Eaglen “came to the top.” He said she is motivated and has worked in the Waxahachie school district for the past 7.5 years. The committee members were Ann Hyles, Erica Miller, Matthew Godwin and Joffre. Upon recommending Eaglen, Joffre said, “She is a perfect fit for this campus.”

Cheryl Owen made the motion with a second from Ida Overton. The motion to hire passed unanimously.

The board also approved the rehiring of Vivian Moreland who has been with the district many years. Barry Bassett, superintendent, said the organization that Moreland contracted with as a retired rehire no longer offers that service.

Larry Eubank made the motion with a second from Russ Lewis. The motion to hire passed unanimously.

The board adjourned at 8 p.m. Mark Stiles, board member, was not present at the meeting.
