Victor Carera and his wife Donna have lived in Italy for fifteen years. They are really enjoying the country life and are excited to be here.

They moved to Italy from Grand Prairie and have always lived in big cities. They wanted to experience small town country living. They drove through our delightful little town and decided to stay.

Victor and his wife are both retired. Victor retired from Kroger where he was the deli manager. Before working at Kroger he owned his own Mexican restaurants which he built from the ground up. He owned one in Kentucky and one in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Donna retired from Waxahachie’s Ninth Grade Academy where she worked as a school counselor.

Victor and his wife Donna have been married for twenty-eight years. Victor has three children, one daughter-Geralyn (Gin for short), two sons Carlos and Angel. He also has three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

You might wonder, this couple is retired, what do they do with all their time? Well, let me tell you they let no grass grow under their feet, that is for sure. They work out every day at the YMCA in Waxahachie and the rest of the time they are traveling.

Donna said, “We travel twice a year and really look forward to our trips.” They have gone to Thailand, Bali, Ireland, China, and while visiting Pamplona, Spain, Donna participated in the famous festival Fiesta de San Fermin, the running of the bulls! Victor is deciding whether he will run with the bulls next year when they return to Spain.

When asked what he thought of Italy, Victor replied, “I usually am a big city person but I really like this little town of Italy and I was surprised to see the Citizen of the Month sign in our yard.”

He went on to say, “I love that the people of this town appreciate me. I feel very honored to be acknowledged by the people of Italy.”

Congratulations Victor Carera!
