Washington, Eubank top the 2013 all-district volleyball selections for Italy

Italy — The all-district accolades out of 1A Region II District 13 have been released for girls volleyball. Italy’s Lady Gladiators boast two first-team selections with team captain Madison Washington and setter Bailey Eubank, both juniors, and two second-team selections in junior Kortnei Johnson and sophomore Halee Turner.
Honorable mention selections from Italy were junior Jaclynn Lewis, junior Tara Wallis, senior Paige Westbrook and senior Monserrat Figueroa. Lewis, along with senior Taylor Turner, earned All-Academic All-Distirct honors, as well.
Overall, the Lady Gladiators finished with a 14-11 winning record and went 8-6 in district play to finish in 4th place for the second consecutive season. Not the finish our ladies were hoping for but it was still an exciting team that will keep plenty of game tested talent on next year’s roster.
First-year head coach, Morgan Mathews, made this comments regarding this year’s team, “I am so proud of every Lady Gladiator Volleyball player. I love each and every one of you girls with all my heart. My varsity team finished strong and played together as a TEAM. Even though we finished in 4th place, you are still #1 to me!! Seniors, I will miss you. You are wonderful young women who will be nothing but successful in life. Thank you for being great role models and outstanding young women. To all the rest of the girls, we can be district champs next season. We have the ammunition to dominate the district if we WANT to. Keep working hard and you will see the results. You never want to look back and say, “What if I would have practiced a little harder?” NOW is the time to get it done and work hard. You have a whole year almost to think about your goals for next season and to do whatever you think you need to in order to achieve those goals. YOU ARE AWESOME!! Thank you for accepting me and for playing hard for me. Love you Girls!!”
