The Italy Fire Department hosted their annual Christmas Party inside the community center to celebrated the holidays with friends and family.

Instead of the fire alarm, it was the dinner bell calling all the firefighters into town for a delicious meal, catered by Bubba’s BBQ. The meal came complete with brisket, sausage and desserts which began the evening as guest visited and the little ones frolicked and played.

Captain Jackie Cate presented awards to the firefighters in attendance while simultaneously entertaining folks with the microphone. Fellow firefighter Randy Boyd commented at one point, “I think Jackie was born with a microphone in his hand,” which drew a chuckle from the crowd.

After viewing a video slideshow of the department in action over the past year, an awards presentation acknowledged firefighters for their length of service. Fire Chief Donald Chambers highlighted the ceremony upon receiving a certificate honoring his 41 years of commitment to the community.

Ellis County Emergency Service District #3 (ESD) members were recognized, as well, and included: Jackie Cate-President, Howard Morgan-Vice President, James Steele-Treasurer, Vicente Guerrero-Secretary and Murrie Wainscott.

Mr. Morgan then stepped to the podium to offer a special thanks to the department for being there so quickly the night his wife had suffered a stroke, “They were there before the ambulance arrived and it meant very much to me,” concluded Mr. Morgan.

Murrie Wainscott offered a few words in regards to the department, as well, by reiterating the pride we all have in our firefighters that take such good care of us.

Special thanks to the members of the Italy Fire Department for their sacrifice and to their families who give up so much to help keep us all safe.
