Can you imagine how excited the students at Avalon ISD must be? For the first time ever in the history of their school they now have a softball field set up and ready for them to “Play Ball.”

This past Saturday morning at 10:30 they held the dedication of the softball field and then cut the proverbial ribbon.

During the dedication Dr. Del Bosque told the parents, staff and students that a friend of his had sent him a container of dirt especially for this dedication. Now this wasn’t just any old dirt! It was dirt that came from the ‘Field of Dreams’ ball field where the movie was filmed. As Dr. Del Bosque sprinkled the dirt over their new softball field everyone clapped.

“This is so exciting, a real milestone,” said Dr. Del Bosque. He went on to say, “This softball field has been in the works for over five years. We built this ourselves, the maintenance people graded and smoothed out the playing field and planted the grass. We saved diligently for five years and now it is a reality. We are now ready to play ball.”

Avalon ISD softball girls have already played two games on their new field and are raring to play the rest of the season. Go Lady Eagles!
