Ann (Sims) Byers, 1944 – 2014

Ann (Sims) Byers, 69 of Italy, Texas passed away Saturday, May 03, 2014 in Waxahachie, Texas. She was born May 15, 1944 in Waxahachie to the late John Hester and Jimmie Katie Nall Sims.

Ann was a graduate of Waxahachie High School and later attended North Texas University. After college she worked for the Presbyterian Children’s Home for over thirty years. She was President and Director of the home for eight years before her retirement. After retirement she worked at the Italy High School as Assistant Librarian. Ann loved children, her whole life revolved around the children. She was well know all over Ellis County, she never met a stranger, accepted everyone as they were, recognized potential in every child and always had a smile on her face. She will be dearly missed by her family and everyone who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Ervin “Doc” Byers of Italy, Texas; 2 Sons: Barry Byers of Italy, Texas and Brentley and Nancy Byers of Midlothian, Texas; 1 Daughter: Jane and Dana Angle of Lubbock; 1 Brother: J. B. and Helen Sims of Waxahachie; 3 Sisters: Betty Hunter of Waxahachie, Jimmie Lou Stephenson of Waxahachie and Janice Meroney of Austin, Texas. 4 Grandchildren: Lauren Byers, Katie Byers, Zain Byers and John Byers. Numerous Nieces and Nephews and a host of friends.

Services to celebrate her life are scheduled for 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 07, 2014 at the Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Heath Sims officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Hunter, Mikel Stephenson, Gary Stephenson, David Stephenson, John Meroney, Britt Sims, Glenn Sims, John Stephenson, Seth Sims, Shance Sims, Cade Sims, Clay Blankenship and Glenn Chancellor. Honorary Pallbearers will be Zain Byers, John Byers, Randy Boyd, Kevin Roldan, Shad Newman, Nicholas Lundburg, Joseph Lundburg, Bailey Walton and Zackery Boykin

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, May 06, 2014 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the Italy Youth Livestock Buyers Club at the First State Bank in Italy, Texas.
