Italy’s state track qualifiers shine bright on their sport’s biggest stage

Austin — The Italy Track and Field team had a great weekend competing at the 2014 UIL State Track Meet inside Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas at Austin campus on May 9 and 10. Italy’s individual and team results are listed below:

TaMarcus Sheppard:

  • Finished 4th place overall in the High Jump with a height of 6’,3”.

Halee Turner:

  • Returned for the second year in a row to compete in the 100m Hurdles. She finished in 8th place with a time of 16.54 seconds.

April Lusk, Janae Robertson, Kendra Copeland, and Kortnei Johnson:

  • The girls sprint relay team finished in 2nd place with a season best time of 48.90. They missed 1st place by 5/100 of a second. The relay team was comprised of April Lusk, Janae Robertson, Kendra Copeland, and Kortnei Johnson. Teammate Bernice Hailey was the alternate.

Kortnei Johnson:

  • Kortnei repeated as the champion in the 200m Dash. She ran a time of 24.15 to easily win the race. This is her second year in a row to win the 200m dash. Kortnei also won the 100m Dash for the 3rd consecutive year. She ran an incredible time of 11.51 to set a new 1A-D1 state meet time for the girls 100m Dash!

Italy’s girls finished 2nd overall at the state meet with 36 points!
