Italy ISD School Board Resolution regarding this year’s STAAR testing
Board Resolution to Suspend Mathematics Portion of Policy EIE (Local) for 2014-2015 School Year Only
The Texas Education Code requires students in grades 5 and 8 to meet the passing standards on the reading and mathematics state-mandated STAAR assessments. These students must meet the passing standards to be promoted to the next grade level as part of the state’s Student Success Initiative (SSI).
The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for mathematics in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade have been revised and will be implemented in the 2014-2015 school year for the first time. Due to this revision, the state passing standards for the STAAR grades 5 and 8 mathematics assessments will not be established and only raw score data will be available.
Thus, the Board of Trustees of Italy ISD adopted a resolution on July 21, 2014 to suspend the mathematics portion of policy EIE (Local). Students in grades 5 and 8 will not need to meet the passing standards on the STAAR mathematics assessment only for the 2014-2015 school year in order to be promoted to the next grade.
Please be aware that students in grades 5 and 8 must still meet the passing standards on the STAAR reading assessment in order to be promoted to the next grade.
