Congratulations to Italy Gladiator senior Clayton Miller who was named a 1st Team All-State Defensive Back for TheOldCoach.com Class 2A Division II All-State Team.

Miller (6’2", 155 lbs.) was a three-year varsity letterman for the Italy Gladiators who improved by leaps-and-bounds from one season to the next. A rising star in Italy’s defensive secondary during his junior season, Miller was a bonafide team leader for first-year AD/HFC David Weaver who selected Miller as one of his senior captains.

Coach Weaver had this to say about Miller and his accomplishments, “Clayton Miller was the ultimate leader for out football team this year. He was the last Captain to be chosen of the three, but he proved over and over that he deserved the ‘C’ on his head gear. Clayton did not just view himself as a Wide Receiver, as a Safety, or as a Punt Returner, he viewed himself as a football player and wanted to do whatever it took to put himself and his team in the best position to win the contest. As a coach, that is what we look for in our leaders. The ability to effect those around you as you do your job. He was consistently making those around him better. He is deserving of all the accolades he is receiving at this point, for the work he put in during the fall. We love and appreciate all the sacrifices that Clayton has made and will miss him next year. Good Luck Clayton and Carpe Diem!”

A playmaker on both sides of the ball, he helped lead the Gladiators to 6-1 district record as the runner-up, returning Italy to the playoffs after a one-year absence. Miller’s heart of old gold was on full display during his final game as he battled on despite a broken wrist. With this honor, Miller becomes the 61st Gladiator to be added to the coveted Golden Wall of Fame.
