Italy High FCCLA Regional competitors gear up for State
This year, Italy High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) student competitors traveled to Waco, Texas, for their Regional Competition. Seventeen IHS students competed on February 4th and 5th and received their results in the leadership conference’s general session on February 6th. In the past, this competition has only taken two days, but because of a drastic increase in participation it was increased to a three day event.
Of the 17 FCCLA Gladiators who competed, 9 are advancing to the State Competition which will be held on April 7th-9th, 2016, in Dallas, Texas.
This year’s theme, Connect & Commit, describes how our students prepared for the competition and placed very well in three categories.
Julissa Hernandez, Halee Turner, and Amber Hooker took 3rd out of 32 teams in Life Event Planning. One of the most entered events, the girls’ did very well and look forward to tweaking their project to compete in Dallas.
Vanessa Cantu, Joe Celis, and Austin Crawford took 4th in Sports Nutrition. They were complimented on their ease before the judges and overall presentation. They too will be making changes to up their game before the state judges.
Marlen Hernandez, Lorena Rodriguez, and Christy Murray took 1st in Environmental Ambassador and are excited to get to the next level.
Mrs. Eaglen, Italy’s FCCLA sponsor, is incredibly proud of her kids and is excited to see what they will do at the State competition once they make the suggested changes based on the rubrics from the regional judges.
If students place in the top two at the state competition, Nationals will be in San Diego, California. We hope sunscreen and shades will be in our students’ futures!
