Congratulations to the Gladiator Regiment for their recent success at the Region 8 East zone UIL Concert and sight reading contest. The event was held on Wednesday, March 2 at Groesbeck High School and included thirty five bands from class 1A-4A.

Italy’s program consisted of The Gladiator by Sousa/Shaffer, The Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre, and Ghost Fleet by Robert Sheldon. Along with pointing out some minor precision and intonation issues, the judges were very pleased with the band’s program and complimented the band’s musicality and attention to detail. All three of the concert judges and all three of the sight reading judges awarded the band a “superior” rating (first division).

With Wednesday’s results and the marching ratings from last October, the Gladiator Regiment band is once again a Sweepstakes award winner!

Of the thirty five bands that performed, only six bands were awarded a sweepstakes trophy. Of those six sweepstakes award winners, only three bands, including Italy, earned a clean sweep. In other words, these three bands earned a “superior” rating from all three concert judges and all three sight reading judges. The other bands that also earned a sweepstakes were: Kerens (2A), Blooming Grove (3A), Hillsboro (3A), Teague (3A), and Groesbeck (4A).
