Maypearl — The 1A Italy Gladiators gave a rousing performance during their thrilling season opening win over the Maypearl Panthers, 41-14. Quarterback Eric Carson had complete control off Italy’s passing attack while backs Ryheem Walker, Jalarnce Jamal Lewis and Shad Newman kept the offensive attack well-balanced.

Receiver Trevon Robertson played a pivotal role in the Gladiator passing game while Chase Hamilton and Cole Hopkins each caught a touchdown pass from Carson thanks to solid pocket protection from Italy’s muscle up front.

The Gladiators will take on the Malakoff Tigers Friday at Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie as part of the inaugural Dale Hansen Football Classic starting at 7:30 p.m.
