Italy Gladiators vs. Goldthwaite Eagles

Regional Quarterfinal Playoff Football Game Information:

Thanks to ferocious running by senior tailback Ryheem Walker who rampaged for 200 rushing yards on 22 attempts and 1 touchdown behind his no frills, just get the job done, of an offensive line, which includes Zackery Boykin, Darol Mayberry, Kevin Roldan, Cody Medrano, Kyle Fortneberry and Zain Byers, and thanks to 4 touchdowns by quarterback Marvin Cox who rushed for 238 yards on 16 attempts and 4 touchdowns, the Italy Gladiators (8-4) steamrolled past the Honey Grove Warriors 33-20 to claim the 2012 regional semifinal championship.

Defensively, Italy’s front line troops consisting of Jalarnce Lewis, Reid Jacinto, Adrian Reed, Fortenberry and Byers helped contain a Warrior ground game that averaged just over 44-points per game this season. Linebackers Shad Newman, Walker and Cox were backed up by Chase Hamilton, Hayden Woods, Trevon Robertson and Eric Carson who intercepted a pass to help finish off Honey Grove. Effective kickoffs mixed in by Roldan, who also went 3-of-5 on point-after attempts, and punts by Cole Hopkins, including a 37 yard effort that bounced out at the Warrior 2-yard line, helped give Italy a decisive win.

Next up for the Gladiators will be the Goldthwaite Eagles (7-5) who survived a come from behind 21-14 win over the touted Lindsay Knights to meet Italy for a Division I-A Region II Quarterfinal Championship showdown.
