Amanada Pustejovsky originally started out going to college to be an orthodontist. She began substitute teaching during a college break and realized that teaching was for her. “I did some subbing and the kids won my heart.” Pustejovsky continued, “I saw how eager the kids were to learn, they got so excited. Just to see that you are part of what helped to ‘turn the light bulb on’ is amazing and so worth while.”

Amanda graduated from Ennis High School, went on to Texas A & M in College Station and graduated in 2006 earning her teaching degree.

This is Amanda Pustejovsky’s second year of teaching. She taught Kindergarten in San Antonio at Primrose School of Huebner Village. Now she teaches second grade for Avalon ISD. Pustejovsky explained, “As of right now I enjoy the 2nd grade, I think this is where I want to be. I loved teaching Kindergarten but second graders are little more independent and you can do a little more with them.”

When asked what her goal was for her class this year, Amanda responded, “I want them to be able to learn not only what they are required to learn but also I want them to know that they can be or do anything they have a mind to. They are all very smart and eager to learn and they will go far. I encourage them to learn by doing a lot of centers. We have a reading center, writing center, listening center, math center, science and spelling centers. Centers are a fun way of learning.”

Pustejovsky has a deep desire to “get through” to the students any way she can. She said, “My teaching style is adapted to how the children learn, some are visual learners, some are hands on. They all have different ways of learning. We decide which way is best for each student and go from there. I do a variety of teaching techniques to help them all.”

Amanda is married to Daniel Pustejovsky. He works for Pilgrim’s Pride in Dallas. In her spare time Amanda and her husband play with their two adorable puppies: Macy (Boston Terrier) and Harley (Black Lab). They have lots of fun playing with them in their backyard and love to spoil them.

Pustejovsky gives her husband and her parents the credit for where she is now, “I am very thankful to have my husband and my family by my side as I take this new step in my life. I would be lost without them. I would not be where I am today without the love, support and guidance from my parents. I am blessed to have parents like them. We are a really close knit family and enjoy spending time with one another.”

Amanda loves teaching at Avalon ISD, “I love the school, it is small, close knit, a very friendly atmosphere, like a family. Everyone welcomed me with open arms. I am very passionate about teaching and I am glad I have found what I am called to do. I found my niche in the second grade at Avalon ISD.”
