The students of Stafford Elementary spent the month of April having a “penny war.” With the help of the Stafford PTO and teachers, the students collected their loose change to promote Autism Awareness. The class that raised the most change would win a pizza party. Mrs. Shannon Wegener’s 5th grade class raised $251, the highest individual class total.
Karate is alive and well in Italy — recorder karate, that is. Just ask Stafford Elementary fifth grade student Itzayanna DeLaHoya.
The Italy Gladiators Bass Club invites all ages of anglers who are registered students of Italy ISD to compete in their 1st Annual Land Tournament on Monday, April 16, which is a no school day. The tournament will begin at dawn with first cast at 7am and last cast at 11:30 am. Fishing will be from banks only (no boats) on any body of water they choose.
We are preparing for our annual Pre-K and Kindergarten Roundup at Stafford Elementary! The purpose is to pre-register first year students for the upcoming school year, and to determine our student/teacher ratios. If you have, or know someone within the district with a child meeting age and eligibility requirements, please take note of the attached information.
Stafford Elementary School is joining Carter BloodCare to educate the next generation of blood donors about the importance of being a regular community blood donor. See attached flyer.
During the March board meeting, the Italy ISD School Board voted unanimously to hire Mrs. LaKesha Bass as the new principal for Stafford Elementary. Mrs. Bass has been an assistant principal for 6 years in DeSoto ISD. She has also been a math instructional specialist and elementary school teacher. Mrs. Bass will transition into her new role during the first week of May.
Various forms of dance, including folk-dancing are part of the PE elementary curriculum. I am looking for volunteers to help teach square dance to our grades 2-5 students. There will be an important parent information meeting to discuss upcoming state assessments for all 3rd-6th grade parents (Tuesday, March 20th — 6:00-7:00 p.m.). The meeting will take place in your child’s classroom. Students will receive a free assignment coupon, if their parent attends.

It is common for people to experience a change in their sleeping patterns in the days and weeks following a disturbing event. Our brains are overstimulated with thoughts, making it difficult to wind down at the end of the day. After doing some research, sleep experts have recommended the following helpful tips for adults and children.
Sixteen months ago, Italy ISD broke ground at Stafford Elementary School to start the construction project. Tuesday morning, we began to use the front portion of the new addition to the building.
The Stafford Student council, under the direction of Maggie Westrick and Kim Varner, organized a food drive for the Italy Food Pantry during October and November.
Stafford Elementary will be participating in a Canned Food Drive. Please help your school and community by sending canned goods and non-perishable items all month long! We especially need Instant Mashed Potatoes, Corn Bread Mix, and gravy.

Italy ISD will have Early Childhood, Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten Roundup to enroll children who will be eligible for classes for the 2017-2018 school year. This year’s round up will be April 19, 2017 from 12:00pm until 7:00 pm.
Being in school every day raises your student’s chances for scoring well on tests, and securing college admission and scholarship opportunities.
The Texas Department of Health has ruled that students must be current with immunizations in order to attend school unless an exemption has been filed with the school in accordance with Texas Education Code, Health and Safety, Chapter 38.0001.

Nurse Guilliams, the district RN for Italy ISD, would like to extend her thanks to you for the successful blood drive that was done on December 14th, 2016. There were 56 blood donations that day!

This morning at Stafford Elementary the construction company hit an electric line that buried under the old foundation. We will be assessing the situation and notifying parents of any changes to our schedule.

Stafford Elementary Library is hosting its annual Scholastic Book Fair this week: October 10-14. The fair will be open Monday-Thursday from 7:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on Friday from 7:45-12 p.m. in Stafford’s gymnasium.
Italy ISD offers services to gifted and talented students in a variety of formats. If your student is not currently identified as gifted and talented, and you believe that your child shows these tendencies, then you may nominate him/her for the screening process which is divided into three elements: standardized test of mental ability, teacher judgment based on observation and characteristics, and standardized achievement test scores (if available).

With the recent rains causing work to slow or cease, the Operation’s crew of Italy ISD is working hard to get both campuses ready for students on Monday.
As we move toward the first day of school, it is important you are aware of some adjustments to our plans for the beginning of school.
Parents-ALL students must complete registration packets prior to “Meet the Teacher Night” on August 18th. We are available to assist new students with the packets beginning Monday (August 8th) @ 9:00 a.m. ALL returning students can begin the process on Tuesday (August 9th) @ 9:00 a.m.
