During the March board meeting, the Italy ISD School Board voted unanimously to hire Mrs. LaKesha Bass as the new principal for Stafford Elementary. Mrs. Bass has been an assistant principal for 6 years in DeSoto ISD. She has also been a math instructional specialist and elementary school teacher. Mrs. Bass will transition into her new role during the first week of May.
Italy ISD Superintendent, Mr. Lee Joffre is developing a Superintendent Student Advisory Council for Italy ISD. The purpose of the Council is to provide students an avenue to develop and share ideas for continuous school improvement. The agenda item for the meetings will be driven by the students. All parents of qualifying students are encouraged to discuss this opportunity with their children. The application is attached.
I am writing as a follow-up to my recent letter about an accusation of a threat at school.

The community is invited to the dedication of the new classrooms and library at Stafford Elementary on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 2pm.
Italy ISD will exclusivly use the School Rush APP to communicate any alerts, messages, or emergencies with the community of Italy ISD. Attached is the document with all the information needed to begin using the School Rush app, and if you currently are using remind 101, the school will no longer use remind 101 to send out community messages or alerts. The Italy Strong tee shirt fundraiser to benefit Noelle Jones and her family was very successful. We would like to thank everyone that purchased an Italy Strong shirt. We would also like to recognize Lil Dab, BHB Feed and McDonalds for their support. Due to your generosity and support we will be able to make a sizeable donation to Noelle and her family for her medical expenses. We wanted “Italy Strong” to be a positive message to our community and aid in our unity and healing.
Italy ISD is trying to develop a “Culture of Voting” within our community. The included images help explain the importance of voting and gives some important dates.
Italy Community Recovery Night will be hosted by Italy ISD at Central Baptist Church in the Family Life Center from 5-7 p.m. on the February 8th. See the attached the flyer with more information.
Due to a high level of student and staff illnesses, Italy ISD will be closed Thursday, February 1st and Friday, February 2nd. We will also be out Monday, February 5th as part of our approved calendar.
It is common for people to experience a change in their sleeping patterns in the days and weeks following a disturbing event. Our brains are overstimulated with thoughts, making it difficult to wind down at the end of the day. After doing some research, sleep experts have recommended the following helpful tips for adults and children.
Tonight, as our Gladiators host the Frost Polar Bears, we will be asking for donations in order to help Noelle Jones with her medical expenses. The Gladiator cheerleaders will be passing buckets around the Dome between the Varsity Girls and the Varsity Boys contests. Any help that you may be able to provide is welcome.

At Italy ISD, I and everyone on my staff are dedicated to maintaining a strong partnership with you in an effort to provide the very best education for our students and your children. Key to that partnership is open communication. For this reason, I want to discuss the tragic incident that occurred at Italy High School on January 22, 2018.
We have been notified by school personnel that the Lady Gladiator Softball Hamburger Dinner along with scheduled Basketball games against Frost originally slated for Tuesday, January 23th have been moved back one day. These events will now be held on Wednesday, January 24th.
All meetings and activities planned at both Italy ISD campuses are cancelled for this evening (Monday, January 22, 2018). An administrative meeting will be held this afternoon where discussion will be held regarding classes and actives for the remainder of the week. Results of this meeting will be relayed here on the Italy Neotribune.
Arely Salazar, Italy High School’s FCCLA Advocacy competing team, will be hosting her 2nd Annual Clothes Drive! Last year’s team, which also included Brooke DeBorde, collected 1,200 pounds of clothing!
Italy ISD Board of Trustees Election packets are now available to be picked up beginning January 17, 2018 through February 16, 2018. The administration office will be open from 8:00 am — 4:00 pm. Due to forecasted inclement weather Italy ISD will be closed Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Our students’ safety is important to us. We will continue to monitor the forecast and update our community regarding future decisions.
I hope everyone is staying warm! The volleyball program is selling jackets! I have had several people ask me about my jacket, so I thought I would take this opportunity to allow you all to purchase one (if you want)! They are $45, and I have included a picture and description.
Sixteen months ago, Italy ISD broke ground at Stafford Elementary School to start the construction project. Tuesday morning, we began to use the front portion of the new addition to the building.
The Student Health Advisory Committee will again be holding meetings for the 2017-2018 school year.
Last week, Italy Special Olympics students from both campuses participated in their annual bowling competition in Garland at AMF Lanes.

As many of you are aware, the Texas State Legislature is currently in a Special Session. With less than one week to go The House has passed House Bill 21. This bill has potential to increase state funding by $210 per student. This would provide Italy ISD with approximately $124,000.00 of additional revenue to educate our students.
The Italy Police Department invites you to help stuff the bus. Please help us in assisting local children in need. You may drop off your new school supplies and backpacks in the school bus box at City Hall located at 161 W. Main Street. The donation box will be available August 1st through August 31st.
Italy, Texas (Summer 2017) – Italy Independent School District announced the implementation of energy conservation measures for its campuses including state-of-the-art LED lighting. Government Capital Corporation was chosen as the financing partner for the $305,000 project.
Italy ISD’s students’ parents may choose to order supplies again this summer to avoid the lines and aisles of school supplies in major retail stores. Educational Products Inc. offers these supplies for parents/students at discounted rates. Forms for pre-K through 8th grades go home this week with Italy Students.

Aim for Success, Inc., will present their nationally acclaimed program to the students and parents of Italy ISD. The Aim For Success motivational programs have educated over two million teens, parents and educators across America during the past 18 years on topics such as abstinence education, drug prevention and anti-bullying.
Earlier this week the track was painted and it appears to be complete. However, the track is required to cure prior to being used.

A Public Meeting of The Italy ISD Site-Based Decision Making Committee will be held April 26, 2017, beginning at 5:00 PM in the High School Cafeteria, 300 College Street, Italy, Texas.
The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a called meeting on Monday, April 10th, 2017 in the Italy High School Cafeteria, 300 S. College Street, Italy. Meeting time is slated for 6pm.
This evening the School Board will have three meetings. Although there are some construction items to address, the purpose of meetings is to meet the required steps to pursuing a status of District of Innovation.
Beth Guilliams, R.N., Italy ISD’s district nurse, wants to invite you to come out to Italy’s Community Health and Wellness Fair. Several vendors will be available to discuss a wide range of health issues faced by many in Italy and our surrounding communities.

January has been a busy month for our teachers and staff. This is the time of year the staff is wrapping up the first semester and preparing for the challenges of the second semester.

The fair will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. in the dome.

This evening the Gladiator basketball teams will host Cayuga High School at The Dome. I have asked the administration team to help enforce some common expectations during the game.
Nurse Guilliams, the district RN for Italy ISD, would like to extend her thanks to you for the successful blood drive that was done on December 14th, 2016. There were 56 blood donations that day!
The Italy ISD School Board approved a resolution outlining their top legislative priorities entering the 2017 Texas Legislative Session. The passing of this measure is the latest in a collective effort by the superintendents and school boards of Region 10 to communicate the top areas of interest that stand to impact the students they collectively serve.
On December 14th, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Carter Blood Care will have donation buses set up at Stafford Elementary and Italy HS. See the article for information on scheduling your donation.

This weekend many of the staff and student groups will be a part of the Italian Christmas Festival that is hosted by the City of Italy. We are looking forward to being a part of the fun.
