The Italy School Board of Trustees awarded two contracts using Tax Rate Election (TRE) funds at its monthly meeting held Monday evening.

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Agenda items include recognition of the Employee of the Month, staff resignations, budget amendments, and HVAC and roofing renovations.
The Italy ISD Board of Trustees recognized Coach Kyle Holley as Employee of the Month at its monthly meeting held Tuesday evening.
The IISD Board will meet Tuesday, March 24 in the administration offices at 300 South College, Italy. The agenda includes recognition of the Employee of the Month, Kyle Holley, discussion of a three-year plan on lighting, roof and HVAC renovations and disposition of surplus property policy. Teacher contracts will be discussed during Executive Session.
The Italy School Board approved professional contracts at a meeting held Thursday evening. They renewed contracts for an additional year for Pam Luttrull, director of special programs; Carolyn Maevers, Stafford Elementary principal; and Craig Bales, athletic director.
The IISD Board will meet Thursday, February 26 in the administration offices at 300 South College, Italy. Poll location, early voting preparation and the agreement of joint city and school board elections will be considered. There will be two, 2-year term board trustee positions up for election. Other items on the agenda include review of 2009-2010 school calendar and contract renewals for Director of Special Programs, Principal(s) and Athletic Director. Due to the Italy Boys Basketball playoff game next Monday night the Italy ISD School Board meeting has been postponed. The meeting is now scheduled for Thursday, February 26, 7:00 p.m.
The Italy School Board of Directors extended the contract of Jimmie Malone, superintendent, for 42 months at a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday evening. This extends his contract through June 30, 2012.

The Italy School Board of Trustees met Thursday night in a called meeting with a professional engineer concerning the lighting portion of the tax rate election.
Clint Husley, P.E. of Husley Engineering is scheduled to give a presentation before the Italy ISD Board of Trustees tonight. The Community Based Instruction (CBI) Class at Italy High School displayed their unselfishness at the Italy School Board of Trustee’s monthly meeting held Monday night. The CBI class, taught by Kelly Vernon, won the football signed by more than two dozen Dallas Cowboys at Italy’s Homecoming in October. The class donated the football to the school district at the meeting.
Kelly Vernon and students plan to give a special presentation at the Italy ISD regular school board meeting tonight. The board will also discuss what to do with the additional funds from the recent tax changes approved by the voters. Other business includes the standard reports. The planned executive session includes discussing the Business Manager vacancy and school property at 500 College Street. The Italy City Council, the School Board of Trustees, Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and Italy Fire District held a joint meeting Monday evening, Oct. 6. Mark Stiles, president of the EDC, said all the entities in the community needed to work together to better the community. He said the city and school were lucky to have those on the council and school board. “You are doing a job nobody else wanted,” he pointed out.
Italy ISD offers services to gifted and talented students in a variety of formats. If you student is not currently identified as gifted and talented, and you believe that your child shows these tendencies, then you may nominate him/her for the screening process which is divided into three elements: standardized test of mental ability, teacher judgment based on observation and characteristics, and standardized achievement test scores (if available).
Monday, October 6, Italy’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) will be meeting with Italy’s Independent School District board. An EDC presentation will be given by Mark Stiles, followed by a question and answer period for all attendees. Two surplus vehicles will be discussed and insurance through the TASB will be up for approval. The last item of business on the agenda is personnel considerations. The Italy School Board of Trustees is asking voters in the district to vote on a $0.13 tax rate increase. This increase will add an additional $481,500 to the budget for the 2008/2009 school year and each year thereafter until the State Legislature changes current law. The board, however, cannot raise the tax rate without the approval of voters.
