Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will not be discrimination in the course of the meal service. The Italy ISD special olympic athletes received a heroes sendoff from the entire Italy High School student body and faculty early Wednesday morning as Team Italy prepared for their basketball competition at Cedar Hill High School.
Italy ISD, Milford ISD as well as Avalon ISD administration has announced that each will have a delayed start time on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Classes will begin at 10:00am. Buses will run two hours late from their regular schedules.
The upcoming local elections are scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2014. There will be two school board seats and three city council seats up for election.

In an effort to increase the safety of our community, Italy ISD will host an Assistant United States District Attorney presentation to address Internet Safety on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013. The Italy Independent School District earned the state’s highest fiscal accountability rating for the 2011-2012 school year. This announcement came from Barry Bassett, superintendent, at a public hearing held Monday evening.

The Italy Independent School District honored United States Veterans Monday morning with a community wide program. Students from elementary school through high school were involved in honoring the men and women who have served their country.
The Italy ISD’s high school and elementary campuses will honor the military at a Veterans Day program planned for Monday, November 11, 2013. The ceremony will be held in the old Italy High School Gymnasium and is scheduled for 9:00am. All veterans along with the entire community is welcome to attend.

The annual George Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund barbecue dinner will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Italy High School Cafeteria. Cost for the meal is $10 per person.The meal will be catered by Bubba’s of Ennis.
Monday, October 21, 2013 Carter Blood Care will be set up at the IHS Dome. Blood donations will be accepted from 9:00am to 2:40pm. Italy ISD nurse, DeeDee Hamilton, has coordinated a flu shot clinic to be held at both Italy ISD campuses on Monday, October 14th. The community is welcome, however; you must contact Mrs. Hamilton via phone or email by Thursday, October 10th to make sure that enough vaccine is made available. Italy ISD offers services to gifted and talented students in a variety of formats. If your student is not currently identified as gifted and talented, and you believe that your child shows these tendencies, then you may nominate him/her for the screening process which is divided into three elements: standardized test of mental ability, teacher judgment based on observation and characteristics, and standardized achievement test scores (if available).
When Michael Chambers graduated from Italy High School in 1994, little did he know he would be back full time in 2 years. He loved going to school here, but he thought like most graduating seniors, it was time to move on. That changed when he was offered a job at Italy ISD.
Italy ISD offers career and technical education programs in Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources; Arts, A/V Technology & Communications; Finance; Health Science; Human Services; Manufacturing. Admission to these programs is based on age appropriateness, class space, interest, and aptitude.

Teachers, administrators, former teachers, friends and family were on hand Wednesday to bid a fond farewell to Sharan Farmer, librarian at the Italy ISD.
Italy ISD is releasing students early today, Tuesday, May 21, due to a severe weather forecast. The elementary students are being released at 1:15 p.m. The high school/junior high school campus will be releasing at 1:30. A severe storm is expected to pass thru Ellis County around 3:00 p.m. Italy ISD wants the community to feel free come to the dome to seek shelter if the need arises. There have been several activities cancelled this evening. Please read further for more information.
Italy High School and Italy Junior High School will have Cheer and Mascot Tryouts on Saturday, April 6th in the Italy High School Dome. All 6th-11th grade girls and boys are welcome to tryout.

The Italy ISD business office provided the attached Statement of Revenues, Expenditures and Changes in Fund Balance for the year ended August 31, 2012. This was included in the reports given to the Italy ISD School Board this past Tuesday night as well as submitted to the Texas Education Agency.
The Italy ISD staff and Board of Trustees send our heartfelt condolences and thoughts to the people of the Newtown Public School District. In light of this tragedy, Italy ISD has reviewed our safety plans and measures to best ensure the safety of our students and staff. Additionally, and in compliance with the Texas Education Code, Italy ISD conducts a safety audit at least once every three years. We last completed such an audit in August of 2011.
Italy ISD superintendent, Mr. Barry Bassett has scheduled an inservice training for the teachers on Wednesday, December 5th. Students at both the Italy High School and Stafford Elementary School will have an early release that day at 12:15.

The Italy School Board of Trustees hired two new teachers for Stafford Elementary and a nurse for the district at a called meeting Friday afternoon.
November 9th is the last date to nominate students for the gifted and talented program at the elementary and the high school. If anyone wants to nominate a student to be tested for the Gifted and Talented Program, they should get the required paperwork submitted to Melissa Bedard at the elementary or to Sharan Farmer at the high school. The Gifted and Talented nomination forms are on the IISD website under Special Programs.
His dream was that any student at Italy High School who worked hard and had a desire to go to college could do so. He was also a dreamer and a planner and as such, he knew that this would require a lot of money and would need many people involved. This was not to be a one time scholarship, but a perpetual fund where only the interest on the principal was used, so that it would outlive us all.
Hank Hollywood, Athletic Director of Italy High School, wishes to inform the surrounding business community that he has authorized All-American Sports Posters to produce Italy High School’s athletic posters. All-American Sports Posters will provide terrific looking athletic posters and will help the athletic department raise much needed additional funding. All-American Sports Posters will be contacting local businesses to line up community sponsorship for this program and Hank Hollywood urges all business to consider putting their support behind this worthy effort.
Italy ISD has released a schedule for class portraits during the fall semester. The schedule shows dates and times for both the High School and Elementary campuses. Order forms will be distributed to the students the day their photo is made.

The start of the 2012 – 2013 school year is just around the corner. Students are asked to bring the following supplies to Meet the Teacher Night, scheduled for August 23.
Jason Miller (Stafford Elementary principal) will be missed. We will no longer see his smiling face at 7:15 am meeting and greeting the students as they get off the bus. Nor will the students hear him tell them every day in the gymnasium that every day is a new day with endless possibilities and each day is going to be the best day ever.

Kim Nelson has taught at Stafford Elementary for six years. She has taught third grade science, fourth grade reading and writing, and now she teaches kindergarten through sixth grade physical education.
