Italy ISD to promote Cybersmart Week December 16th – 20th
Safe computing is a priority for both parents and school districts. In an effort to increase the safety of our community, Italy ISD will host an Assistant United States District Attorney presentation to address Internet Safety on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013. The Department of Justice presentation will start at 6 p.m. in the Italy ISD Board room.
This event is part of Italy’s second annual “CyberSmart Week.” During the week, Dec. 16-20, students will be given instruction on issues related to safe, ethical, and successful computer use. The nonprofit websites — Cybersmart.org and Netsmartz.org — will provide the basis for this instruction. These sites provide grade-level appropriate information in five areas:
S – Safety and Security Online
M – Manners, Cyberbullying and Ethics
A – Authentic Learning and Creativity
R – Research and Information Fluency
T – Twenty-First Century Challenges
Children and their parents often have different levels of comfort with computers. They also have a different set of priorities. Safe computing is something both need to know and care about. That’s why this informative meeting specifically designed for parents will be so beneficial. The presentation will educate parents of the dangers children face online and what they can do to protect them.
