The Italy ISD staff and Board of Trustees send our heartfelt condolences and thoughts to the people of the Newtown Public School District. In light of this tragedy, Italy ISD has reviewed our safety plans and measures to best ensure the safety of our students and staff. Additionally, and in compliance with the Texas Education Code, Italy ISD conducts a safety audit at least once every three years. We last completed such an audit in August of 2011.

Yesterday, December 17, 2012, Attorney General Greg Abbott listed Italy ISD as not having a safety audit on file. At this time we are attempting to clarify why we were listed. We have contacted the Texas School Safety Center and will take the steps necessary to certify that our safety audit is on file.

We appreciate the support and aid of our students, parents, community members, emergency responders, and law enforcement in helping us provide a safe and secure learning environment.
