Michael Chambers is new Director of Maintenance and Transportation at Italy ISD
When Michael Chambers graduated from Italy High School in 1994, little did he know he would be back full time in 2 years. He loved going to school here, but he thought like most graduating seniors, it was time to move on. That changed when he was offered a job at Italy ISD.
“In 1996, Loyd Davidson asked me one day if I would like a job where I could retire one day and work with really good people,” Chambers explained. “I told him I thought I would like that and he hired me right then. Coming to work for the district was one of the best decisions I ever made.”
Beginning September 1, 2013, Michael was hired as the new Director of Maintenance and Transportation. He said the crew he works with is knowledgeable and does their jobs well. He also said that both campuses have great staff over all this year. He wants to do whatever it takes to improve both campuses.
“We try to fix any work-order as quickly as possible. We are responsible for maintenance at both campuses so we stay very busy. It will take time to accomplish all the jobs we want to do, but we are diligent and will get things done.”
Michael has a very positive attitude that he brings to work with him every day. He has proven he has a good work ethic and that he loves Italy ISD staff and students. Since he has lived in Italy all his life, attended school here and been a part of the community, he feels he has a vested interest at Italy ISD.
“I love this school and always have. I want it to be a place where the kids want to come to learn. After all it is not about us, it is about the kids.”
Chambers is also an associate pastor, youth minister and deacon at First Baptist Church. He believes God gives him the ability to do what he does. He also believes that God gives him the strength to do what he needs to do.
“I believe that my wife, Jennifer, is the greatest gift God has given me. I know he put her here just for me,” he said. They have been married since 1996.
Last year Michael was given the additional title of Coach when he assisted with the softball program. He is happy he will be assisting Coach Rowe again this year.
Chambers lives here in Italy with his wife Jennifer and their children, Britney and Tanner. He has been a member of the Italy Fire Department for the past 19 years. He loves travelling with his family, camping, and sports, especially Gladiator sports.
