School board hires 2 teachers and school nurse

The Italy School Board of Trustees hired two new teachers for Stafford Elementary and a nurse for the district at a called meeting Friday afternoon.

Following a half-hour executive session, board members returned to open session.

Dee Dee Hamilton was named school nurse for the district. The motion was made by Mark Stiles with Cheryl Owen seconding the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

At a recent school board meeting, the board voted not to pursue a class size waiver for the kindergarten and first grades. They chose, instead to add an additional kindergarten and first grade class.

Megan Threadgill was hired as kindergarten teacher. Russ Lewis made the motion with Jon Mathers seconding the motion.

Susan Jacinto, a sixth grade teacher at Stafford, is being transferred to the first grade position and Charla Sparks was hired to replace Jacinto as a sixth grade teacher. The motion to hire sparks was made by Mathers with Lewis seconding the motion.

Barry Bassett, superintendent, said these changes would be made before the end of the semester.

Curtis Riddle and Paul Cockerham were not present at the meeting.
