1st Annual Gladiators Bass Club Land Tournament

The Italy Gladiators Bass Club invites all ages of anglers who are registered students of Italy ISD to compete in their 1st Annual Land Tournament on Monday, April 16, which is a no school day. The tournament will begin at dawn with first cast at 7am and last cast at 11:30 am. Fishing will be from banks only (no boats) on any body of water they choose.

Italy students compete in Unified Tae Kwon Do Tournament

On Saturday, Nov., 4th students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro traveled to Giddings, Texas to compete in an invitational Tae Kwon Do Tournament.  Two students who live in Italy returned home with double 1st place trophies — Nick Sam and Michael Bryant.

Italy Gladiator Alumni Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament September 16, 2017

The Italy Gladiator Alumni Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament, a one-day event, will be played on Saturday, September 16, homecoming weekend, with the first games starting at 10:00 a.m. All teams are vying for a chance to take on the 1997 class in the championship game.

Proceeds from baked goods sales will be donated to the Rana Ramirez fund setup at any 1st State Bank location.

Nick Sam earns 2nd degree Black Belt

On January 2nd 2012 Nick and his parents visited the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro Texas. After a few classes Nick decided he loved Tae Kwon Do. Nick worked extremely hard and after many grading and tournaments he tested for First Degree Black Belt in 2014 and then tested for 2nd Degree Belt in 2017.

Silver Spurs 4-H Club Wrap Up Banner Year with District Championships

Silver Spurs 4-H Club wrapped up a highly successful 4-H year with numerous blue ribbons and first time achievements at the District 8 4-H Horse Show at Bell County Expo in Belton, Texas, June 19-20. Sadie Hinz, a soon to be 8th grader at Italy Junior High, led the team winning a buckle as High Point Intermediate Judged Horseman with 1st places in Western Riding and Western Horsemanship, as well as 2nd place in Showmanship, and 3rd in Trail.

Volleyball positional clinics offered at Hill College this summer

Hill College Rebels Volleyball Team will be hosting volleyball positional clinics for middle and high school student athletes. The high school clinics are for students who will be entering nine through 12 grades in the next school year. The middle school clinic is for students who will be going in to the seventh and eighth grades next year.

Turtle Cadets Earn Trophies

On March 25th, students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School, located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro, Texas for almost 21 years, traveled to Giddings, Texas to compete in an invitational Unified tournament. Two students from the Turtle Cadet program at the Hillsboro UTKD School competed.

Hinz Wins State NRA Challenge

Hunter Hinz, freshman at Italy High School, was named the Texas State Champion at the National Rifle Association’s Youth Hunter Education Challenge. This event could be called the decathlon for outdoorsmen as it includes proficiency in archery, shotgun, muzzle loading, rifle, wildlife identification, hunting safety trail, orienteering and a hunter’s responsibility exam.

On September 13, 2013 Rocklin along with his dad and mom came to visit the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro. After participating in a few free classes Rocklin decided martial arts was for him.

Lumpkins Stadium on Saturday, September 24. Kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. Also, the Gladiator 1st-2nd Grade flag football team will compete in an exhibition contest at halftime featuring local talent and coaches.

Tae Kwon Do Students Compete in Tournament

On May 14th, some students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm Hillsboro, Texas competed in an invitational tournament in Austin, Texas. Among the students who competed were Juan Salas and two of his daughters from Frost, Texas. Juan returned home with two first place trophies, one in patterns and one in sparring. Analy and Joana returned home with trophies as well.

Michael Bryant earns Black Belt

On November 30, 2012 Michael along with his mom and dad, came to visit the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro. After participating in a few free classes Michael decided martial arts was for him. He has competed in many tournaments and has come home with many first place trophies.

The Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro, Texas is proud to announce that the Turtle Cadet Program for 3, 4, and 5 year olds has returned. This is a wonderful program to assist the little ones to learn balance, coordination, follow instructions and build self-confidence while having a great time.

Local Equestrians Ride to Victory

Local equestrians earned top honors in the Ellis County Equine Association Buckle Series horse shows. They were recently honored with buckles, bracelets and bridles for their achievements at the year-end awards banquet held at the J Bar C Cowboy Church in Palmer.

Academic Achievement Awards were awarded at the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School at the June grading. For the past 19 years the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W. Elm Hillsboro, Texas has awarded many students, who are excelled in both martial arts as well as academics with a 3 and 4 foot trophy.

Hinz wins State 4H Round Up

Hunter Hinz, age 13 and student at Italy Junior High, won first place on June 9, 2015, at the Texas State 4-H Round Up in the Intermediate Compound Aided division of the invitational archery contest. Over 4,000 4-Her’s gathered at Texas A&M University to compete in various qualifying and invitational contests for a wide variety of 4-H projects. This was the inaugural year for Texas 4-H to host an archery competition at State 4-H Round Up.

Ellis County Silver Spurs wins big in San Antonio

Members of the Silver Spurs 4-H Club successfully represented Ellis County at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo in Skillathon, Quiz Bowl and Horse Judging contests on February 19th-February 21 and brought home many awards.

On November 22, 2014 students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School tested for new belts. These students were required to preform two patterns, break boards and spar while being tested by a panel of Masters. On hand for the grading were Grand Master Park-9th Degree Black Belt and co-founder of Unified Tae Kwon Do from Houston, Texas, Master Charles Kight-4th Degree Black Belt and chief instructor of the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School for over 18 years, Master Kevin Kight-5th Degree Black Belt from Lorena, Texas and Kevin Devers-4th Degree Black Belt from West, Texas.

On January 2, 2012 a young man entered the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro along with his mother and father, Maria and Roger Sam. The family was from Italy, Texas.

Italy ISD students to compete in Special Olympics Bowling

Several Italy ISD students will have a big send off bright and early Tuesday morning (October 28, 2014). These students will be competing in the Special Olympics Bowling event at USA Bowl in Dallas. The send off will be at 8:00am at the Italy High School campus. Come join in with the student body as they send these Gladiators off to represent Italy.

Procopio family of Italy brings home trophies

On September 20th, 54 students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro traveled to Giddings, Texas to compete in an invitational Tae Kwon Do tournament. There were several students from Italy who attended this tournament but this picture is a mom and son who enjoy Tae Kwon Do for several reasons including a great activity a son and mom can participate in together, great exercise, while helping with focus and helps in building self-esteem.

Hunter Hinz shoots straight

Italy Junior High School’s Hunter Hinz, age 12, is proving to be a master marksman in archery as he won back to back 4-H tournaments in 3D archery over the past two weekends. Hinz competes in the intermediate, ages 11 to 13, compound aided division of the sport.
