Lone Star Cyclists host 29th year of Tour d’Italia bike ride centered in Italy

Image: City of Italy’s mayor, James Hobbs, welcomes a cyclist from Tyler to our fair city for the 29th Annual 2014 Tour d’Italia Bicycle race that set an event record with 1,175 cyclists participating from around the country.

With the tire pressure checked, the chains well oiled and the water bottles filled, 1,175 Tour d’Italia bike riders set a new participation record this past Saturday while touring parts of Ellis, Hill and Navarro Counties. Hosted by Lone Star Cylclists, club president, David Shuford, was presented a golden key to the City of Italy by Mayor James Hobbs.

On March 1st, 2014, 68 students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro, Texas traveled to Giddings to compete in an invitational Tae Kwon Do tournament. These students competed in sparring as well as patterns. Seven of these students were from Italy or Milford area.

Ellis County Youth 4H Archery Tournament results

The Shooting Sports 4-H Club of Ellis County hosted a successful youth archery tournament on February 22 at the Ellis County Expo in Waxahachie. A total of 109 archers from 17 counties competed to see who could result in the highest marking scores.

Italy students compete in San Antonio

Students, several from Italy, traveled to San Antonio to compete in an invitational tournament hosted by Kim’s Academy in San Antonio. These students were from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro, Texas. Four of these students returned home with trophies they earned in patterns as well as sparring.

Italy student selected for Most Improved

On September 14th, 2013 students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School-125 W. Elm Street-Hillsboro, Texas tested for new belts. After the grading Master Charles Kight-Chief Instructor of the school selected students he felt had made the most improvement since the last grading.

Ellis County Equine Association Presents Awards

There were many happy faces and shiny cowboy boots on October 19, as competitors in the Ellis County Equine Association gathered for their year-end banquet at the Grasshopper Ranch in Palmer to receive a menagerie of custom made awards in honor of their hard work to win championships throughout the 2013 ECEA horse show season.

On October 12th, 2013, forty-four students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School participated in an invitational Unified Tae Kwon Do Tournament in Giddings, Texas. Students performed patterns and also sparring with a chance to win 2-trophies.

Softball skills camp scheduled at Hill College in July

Hill College’s Lady Rebel Softball coaching staff is having two, 2-day softball camps in July. The first camp, to be held on July 18th and 19th, will be for 10 thru 14 year-olds and the second camp, to be held on July 25th and 26th, will be for 15 thru 18 year olds. Both of these camps will be held at the Hill College softball field in Hillsboro, just a short drive from Italy.

Italy Schools participated in area wide USA Bowling Special Olympics

Italy Elementary and Italy High School CBI students recently participated in the Special Olympics Bowling tournament held at USA Bowl in Dallas. According to Mrs. Young (High School CBI teacher) and Mrs. Cox (Stafford Elementary CBI teacher) the students were excited and ready to bowl and I would say they were right on target by all the ribbons and medals they brought home.

Both the Italy Police Department and the Italy Fire Department arrive on scene to raise money for “Shop with a Cop” that will benefit deserving families during the Christmas holiday.

The skies may have surprised everyone with a little rain and thunder but the weather did not stop any fireworks or competition on the field. Guns & Hoses, a local fundraiser, arrived in Italy on Saturday night with all the bells and whistles and there was fun for everyone—all for a good cause, Shop With A Cop.

Lone Star Cyclists hosts the 27th Annual Tour d’ Italia

Good weather brought groups of cyclists to Italy on Saturday. The 27th Annual Tour d’Italia was sponsored by the Lone Star Cyclists and over 1050 people registered and rode the countryside around Italy. Membership chairman, Rhea Reedy, estimated 555 people registered on Saturday morning, before the ride.
