Several members of the Ellis County Shooting Sports 4-H Club won awards at the Bosque-Hill 4-H Archery Invitational Tournament held on December 1, at the Exhibits Building of the Fairgrounds in Hillsoboro.

Hunter Hinz, age 11, of Italy, won first place in the Junior Gentleman Compound Aided division of the archery tournament with a score of 486. Ryan Johnson of Waxahachie placed 2nd in the Junior Recurve Gentleman Unaided division with a score of 181. And Austin Sillivan of Maypearl won first place in the Intermediate Gentleman Compound Unaided division with a score of 213.

“All of our 4-H youth did a great job this weekend shooting. The neat thing about archery competitions is you are really competing with yourself. You learn self discipline and patience,” said Shannon Edwards, coach and manager of the Ellis county Shooting Sports 4-H Club.

Edwards said the club is looking forward to competing and hosting the next 4-H archery competition to be held in March in Waxahachie.

The club holds practices and monthly 4-H meetings at the Ellis County Sportsmans’ Club in Waxhachie. For more information about 4-H contact your county’s extension office or for more information on the Shooting Sports Club, contact Coach Edwards at 301-357-0275. While 4-H offers a huge variety of shooting sports projects, the Ellis County club focuses on archery, shotgun and air rifle disciplines.
