If you look in the sky towards McDonald’s, you might see smoke. Not to worry. It is a controlled burn.

On Tuesday afternoon, there was cause for concern if you looked in the direction of Derrs Chapel Road. There was billowing smoke a mile wide. Nothing to be alarmed about, according to Italy City Hall. There was a controlled burn at Reyrosa Ranch.

Neighbors close to the Ranch confirmed the owners called last week and warned adjoining farms this would go on about 3 or 4 days. To prepare, the hands at Reyrosa plowed fire breaks all around the perimeter so the grass, brush and cedar trees that would be burned would not affect their neighbors. Of course, there were a lot of spectators ready and armed with water hoses watching the fire to make sure it didn’t burn too close.

Neighbor, Ted Jackson said, “Anytime we see smoke, we go look!”

Today, a reminder came that Reyrosa has not burned in several years. Jackson mentioned he was ready for the wild hogs to come out so he could trap them and have a barbecue. “Of course, the skunks can just stay in there,” he said with a smile.

Reyrosa Ranch owners were not available for comment.
