Yes, there will be a bonfire
On Wednesday night , October 22, there will be a bonified, good ol’ traditional, private bonfire to celebrate the alumni returning and boost spirits high for the upcoming ball game against the Wortham Bulldogs on Friday night at Willis Field at 7:30 p.m. In the past, there have been worries about danger to the students or fire burning out of control. But nevertheless, the burn ban has been lifted from Ellis County, the cheerleaders are excited, the band has been winning honors, the football players are suited up and the student body will be in attendance. The attitude is exhilaration and the students are ready to put the plans into motion. Along with all the fun, the Italy Fire Department will be on hand, just to make sure nothing goes wrong. This is a private event and not school sponsored. When asked about the sanction of the bonfire Italy High School Administrator, Jimmie Malone, said, “This is not a school sponsored event.”
If you are interested in participating in this age old tradition, the bonfire will be held right outside of the city limits on Derrs Chapel Road. Anyone wanting to donate firewood is asked to give only unpainted wood with no nails or hardware.
Don’t forget to help send victory wishes to the Gladiators during the Homecoming parade on Friday at 3:15 p.m. Help us line the streets starting in front of the school on College Street to Main Street to Ridge and circle back. The pep rally will follow.
