Homecoming week has been phenomenal this year. Fun things from daily contests to bonfires and parades. Italy High School students participated in the best time of their lives.

Friday’s activities filled the whole day and included a parade and pep rally. With many entries in the parade, it was difficult for the judges to decide winners of the day.

Everyone was a winner on Friday. The fans were able to enjoy the students and the spirit of Homecoming. The parade marched up College Street to Main Street to Ridge Street and home again. Students threw candy to the crowds that lined the streets and everyone enjoyed the day.

During the pep rally, the Sophomore class was announced winner of the spirit chain contest with 269 chain links. This was a fundraiser for each class. If you wanted to purchase a link, it was $1. The IHS cheerleaders led the crowds in cheers and performed a dance routine designed just for Gladiators — past and present.

This Homecoming pep rally was not without costumes. Participants were invited to come forward and be judged. Winners were Jake Escamillia, Meredith Brummett and Josh Milligan.

The final contest was Homecoming King and Senior Clay Major, was honored for 2008. The King nominees included Raymond Arriaga, Chase Michaels, Trevor Davis and Mike Vlk. When asked how he felt about his crowning, Clay said with a twinkle in his eye, “My dream has come true. This is what I have lived for. I am the envy of all my friends.” Of course, the whole football team surrounded and pelted him with inflatable bats.
