Flying Dollar Ranch’s Halloween Horse Show

Local equestrians suited up in spooktacular costumes for the Flying Dollar Ranch’s Halloween Horse Show and Play Day on October 25 in Italy. Brooke Lewis of Ennis and her horse Ms Cool Fleet won “Best Overall” in the costume contest for their depiction of Princess Fiona and a dragon from the movie Shrek.

Other costume winners included Sadie Hinz of Italy and her horse Mighty Special who won “Most Elaborate” for their portrayal of a medieval princess, while her brother Hunter Hinz and his horse Rita won “Best Hero” honors for their depiction of Sadie’s knight in shining armor. Sisters Lila and Amelia Dineen of Waxahachie along with their black and white paint horse Dakota won “most original” honors for their portrayal of the Chick-fil-A cow.

In addition to the costume class, a full slate of horse show and play day events were held. Following is a list of the first place winners:

  • Mares at Halter, Showmanship — Tracey Friedmann of Waxahachie, and Jumping For Candy

  • Western Walk Trot, Western Pleasure Adult – Elaine Levine of Waxahachie and Toots
  • Trail 13-and-under — Darien McArthur of Red Oak and Heart
  • Hairpin Race — Elizabeth Terry of Waxahachie and King
  • Cloverleaf Barrels and Straight Away Barrels – Courtney Griffith of Midlothian and Candy Texas
