This past Saturday, October 14th, one of our local Italy HS students participated in a Ride of Champions at Campfire Creek Therapeutic Riding Center in Waxahachie, Texas.
Silver Spurs 4-H Club wrapped up a highly successful 4-H year with numerous blue ribbons and first time achievements at the District 8 4-H Horse Show at Bell County Expo in Belton, Texas, June 19-20. Sadie Hinz, a soon to be 8th grader at Italy Junior High, led the team winning a buckle as High Point Intermediate Judged Horseman with 1st places in Western Riding and Western Horsemanship, as well as 2nd place in Showmanship, and 3rd in Trail.

King Veterinary Clinic is coming to BHB Feed and Supply on August 13th from 8am till noon at 417 W. Moseley, Italy, Texas (Corner of 34 and 77).
Our speaker is from our neighboring town of Avalon. Her name is Becky Moss. Becky is the owner of Becky Moss Performance Horses.
Local equestrians earned top honors in the Ellis County Equine Association Buckle Series horse shows. They were recently honored with buckles, bracelets and bridles for their achievements at the year-end awards banquet held at the J Bar C Cowboy Church in Palmer.

The Silver Spurs 4-H Club of Ellis County horse judging team added another placing at a major show to their list of 2015 successes while winning the 4th place overall junior team at the Houston Stock Show Horse Judging competition on March 9. Thirty seven teams and 107 individuals challenged their skills at judging horses in the events of halter, stock horse, western riding, hunt seat equitation, and hunter under saddle at the event held at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy.

Texas Pony of Americas Club is pleased announce the 2013 Win A POA 4-H Essay Contest. This is a statewide 4-H contest open to registered Texas 4-H club members between the ages of 9 (or entered in the third grade) and 16 as of August 31. The purpose of this contest is to acquaint 4-H members with the Pony of the Americas breed, horse ownership and care in general. The winner will receive a registered POA, halter and lead rope, a Junior Membership for a year in the Texas POA Club, and various other donated prizes.
Ellis County Equine Youth Association’s 2013 president, Jody Clemons, submitted the following newsletter in the intent to inform the current members as well as to entice any new ones to come and join the fun. Flying Dollar Ranch of Italy is a hands on sponsor of these youth.

The Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club members rode many miles and worked hard on October 13 as they participated in the state wide 4-H community service project called One Day. The Silver Spurs cleaned trash off approximately 6 miles of equestrian trails as well as camp grounds and lake frontage area at Lake Bardwell’s Waxahachie Creek Park.
The Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club of Ellis County brought home several impressive state placings from the State 4-H Hippology Contest held at the Scurry Rosser High School, in Scurry, Texas, on August 25, 2012. One hundred and eight 4-H members representing 16 counties across the state of Texas competed in this event.

Flying Dollar Ranch brought home a World Championship and two Reserve World Championships to Italy last weekend after competing at the Gypsy Horse Registry of America’s World Championship Show held January 27-29 at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

The sound of laughter mingled with the clip-clop of hooves filled the air on July 25, as the Ellis County Equine Youth Association hosted another successful fundraiser and fun show at the Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy. Youth competed in halter, western, English and speed events to raise money for ECEYA.
The Milford Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a Rabies Vaccination Clinic Saturday, April 4 between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Milford Fire Station.
On Tuesday, March 24, our little dog escaped the house and left us. Our family misses her very much. She is a small dog with a few copper spots, no tail and copper colored ears. She has a pink plaid collar with rhinestones. She is very sweet and answers to BEA.
Anyone looking for lots of love? Corsicana Animal Shelter has some cute animals that will fill the bill. These two dogs and one cat have been at the shelter the longest and they are literally living on borrowed time. Please help them find a new home!

Mandy is a female Cocker Spaniel who is about 8 years old. Mandy was picked up by Animal Control and brought to the Corsicana Animal Shelter. She has cataracts in both eyes and may be a little hard of hearing. She would make someone a wonderful pet. She really needs a good home.
Saturday, November 8th, College Park Mall in Corsicana held their annual arts and craft show. Corsicana Animal Shelter had a booth set up there hoping to adopt out some of their animals. It was a great success for the homeless animals. Fifteen adult dogs were adopted and found new homes. There were six cats that were up for adoption and all six got adopted.
Ellis County Equine Association is hosting a free clinic on “Healthy Hooves” with local farrier Scott Inmon on Saturday, November 8 at 10 a.m., at the Flying Dollar Ranch on 230 Chambers Drive in Italy. For more information contact Julie Hinz at 972-483-7774.
Martin is a beautiful four-month-old male kitten and really needs a permanent home. He is always ready to play and wants to be loved. He needs to be adopted soon.
Local equestrians suited up in spooktacular costumes for the Flying Dollar Ranch’s Halloween Horse Show and Play Day on October 25 in Italy. Brooke Lewis of Ennis and her horse Ms Cool Fleet won “Best Overall” in the costume contest for their depiction of Princess Fiona and a dragon from the movie Shrek.
Scruffy is a male Terrier mix. He is one year old. He is a little shy at first but once he gets to know you he is wonderful. He is a very sweet dog. He will need a soft hand in training. He wants to have a permanent home.
Shaggy is a three-year-old male Briard mix. He weighs 60 pounds and is the best dog. He is good with a crowd, good with other animals and good with kids. He is house trained, walks on a leash — just a great dog.
Carla and Cloe are two of the cutest little kittens you have ever seen. They reside at the Corsicana Animal Shelter and are looking for a permanent home. They are about four months old. They both have great personalities and love to play. They are typical kittens, they like to climb, play, pounce and tumble.
Milly will be two years old on October 29. She is a beautiful female Boxer. Her owner could not care for her any longer. She is in need of a loving, permanent home. She is a sweet dog, very shy at first, but once she gets to know you she is your number one supporter. She is nervous around men but she is fine with kids and other pets.
Aaron, Adam and Angel are brothers and sister. They are beautiful kittens, three months old and full of energy with great personalities. They currently reside at the the Corsicana Animal Shelter.
Savannah is a female Terrier Mix, she is five months old. She is an adorable little dog with lots of energy. She was born at the Corsicana Animal Shelter and was adopted when she was about eight weeks old. Tearfully, the family that adopted her had to bring her back to the shelter when they could no longer care for her. Savannah would be a wonderful pet for someone who is looking to have lots of love and excitement rolled up in one cute puppy.
Stanley is a one year old adorable, male Corgi mix. He loves to rest in his bed, he does like to play but he really likes his bed.
Chuck is a gorgeous three-year-old Paint gelding that was surrendered to Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society when his owners were reported for neglect. When he arrived he was severely emaciated but has always been very calm and gentle.
How can anyone resist this beautiful brown eyed puppy? I am talking about Lucy, a little two month old female, black and tan Labrador mix. Her home right now is at the Corsicana Animal Shelter.
