FROM THE PRESIDENT

Howdy everyone!

I’d like to first start of by introducing myself. My name is Jody Clemons and I am very excited to serve as your 2013 President. After a very successful show series last year I think we are going to have another amazing year! We have set the dates for the 2013 season starting in April at Mystic Acres in Terrell. We have made a few changes on the show bill for this year. We are also going to add a Cowboy Dressage class to our May show. We are going to sell T-shirts again this year so don’t forgot to order one for those hot show days.

The board is working on some other fun activities for the club and ECEYA. Just make sure to check back for those future activities and dates. The ECEYA will hold their first Meeting on Sunday February 24, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy to elect officers. Youth member Lorna Schnieder has volunteered to do a round pen clinic (adults welcome). So make sure you check the Facebook page for future activities and the locations. YOUTH MEETING

All ECEA youth, the first meeting of the year will be on Sunday, February 24, at 2 pm at the Flying Dollar Ranch, located at 230 Chambers Drive, Italy, Texas. Youth will elect new officers and plan activities for the rest of the year. If you would like to run for office, please have an idea of the position you would like, as well as a few things to say about why you should be elected. Offices are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter.

ROUND PEN CLINIC

On February 24, following the youth meeting at the Flying Dollar, ECEA youth member Lorna Schneider will be teaching a clinic on round pen training.

“I have studied Clinton Anderson’s method of riding and groundwork in great detail these past years. And have successfully used it with all my horses. I am proposing a round penning clinic because I feel there is a need for respectful show horses. I recently had to teach my new horse this because of his nastiness during feeding time,” said Schneider.

Adults are welcome to come watch and participate in the clinic as well. Lorna will give a demonstration with her horse while teaching. Attendees are welcome to bring their own horse to try some hands on techniques with Lorna’s guidance. Any horses brought to the Flying Dollar will need a copy of their current negative coggins papers.

SPONSORSHIPS NEEDED

ECEA needs your help! In order for the club to continue offering such great daily high point awards, rosettes ribbons, and beautiful year end buckles and awards, we need sponsorships! For only $150, businesses and individuals may sponsor a year-end buckle and this fee includes your family membership, as well as recognition at each show, each newsletter, facebook, the website, and the year-end banquet. SCHOLARSHIPS

The ELLIS COUNTY EQUINE ASSOCIATION will give scholarship money for the 2013 school year, amount depending on number of applicants and money collected the previous years not to exceed $500.00 each. Applicants for ECEA’s Nancy Jessup Scholarship must be a active member of a family or a individual member in ECEA for two (2) years. Applicants must qualify for ECEA Nancy Jessup Scholarship by being admitted to a college. Funding will be administered to the college pending approval of the ECEA Board of Directors. Three letters of reference must be submitted with the application, along with an essay of 500 words or less on the topic “My Goals in Life”.

Applications are to be sent to Jessup Scholarship Committee. Must be postmarked no later than April 15. NO EXCEPTIONS. The application form is on the club’s website.
