Italy Youth Competes in State 4-H Shooting Sports Games

The Ellis Co. Shooting Sports 4-H Club coached 18 youth to the State 4-H Shooting Sports Games in San Antonio at the National Shooting Complex held July 14 – 20. Shooters competed in a variety of archery and shotgun events and learned much about sportsmanship, camaraderie and rules and techniques for many shooting games. Stafford Elementary student Hunter Hinz, age 11 of Italy, was on the Ellis County shooting team.

4H Club informational meeting planned

There is an interest in getting an South Ellis County 4H club started. An informational meeting is planned for Thursday evening, May 23. The meeting will be in the Italy Boze Community Center Building at 161 W. Main Street, Italy and will begin at 6:00pm. All those interested in learning about the 4H organization are urged to attend.

Titus Women of Milford — 4th year to host an Angel Tree

Christmas is the time for joy, happiness, thankfulness and sharing. Sharing with those that are not as fortune as ourselves. Titus Women are at it again! This is their fourth year to host the Angel Tree located at Milford City Hall. Once again they want to give to others and invite others to do the same thing. What else is Christmas spirit about?

Ellis County Equine Association Presents Awards

There were many happy faces and shiny cowboy boots on October 13, as competitors in the Ellis County Equine Association gathered for their year-end banquet at the Waxahachie Civic Center to receive a menagerie of custom made awards in honor of their hard work to win championships throughout the 2012 ECEA horse show season.

Silver Spurs 4-H Members Clean Up Waxahachie Creek Park

The Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club members rode many miles and worked hard on October 13 as they participated in the state wide 4-H community service project called One Day. The Silver Spurs cleaned trash off approximately 6 miles of equestrian trails as well as camp grounds and lake frontage area at Lake Bardwell’s Waxahachie Creek Park.

The Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club of Ellis County brought home several impressive state placings from the State 4-H Hippology Contest held at the Scurry Rosser High School, in Scurry, Texas, on August 25, 2012. One hundred and eight 4-H members representing 16 counties across the state of Texas competed in this event.

Lone Star Cyclists hosts the 27th Annual Tour d’ Italia

Good weather brought groups of cyclists to Italy on Saturday. The 27th Annual Tour d’Italia was sponsored by the Lone Star Cyclists and over 1050 people registered and rode the countryside around Italy. Membership chairman, Rhea Reedy, estimated 555 people registered on Saturday morning, before the ride.

The theatre students of Italy High School, directed by Andrea Windham, is busy with rehearsals for their upcoming UIL One-Act-Play competition in March. The play, titled Kamikaze Kate (and the sword of Captain Kurdoa) will be performed for the community on Monday, March 19, 2012 in the Italy High School band hall. Everyone is invited to come and watch their performance and enjoy an ice cream social afterwards. The performance will begin at 6:00pm.

Italy Lions Club 4th Annual BBQ Cookoff

This was the fourth year for the Italy Lion’s Club’s (sanctioned by the Lone Star BBQ Society) annual cookoff. According to Arval Gowin (Lions Club president) it was a great success. They had the most entries (cookers) they have ever had. This year there were fifty cooks!

Italy High School FCCLA students advance to State competition

On February 10-11, 2012, Italy High School’s FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) took part in a regionals leadership competition in Waco. Fifteen Italy High School students competed in two categories — STAR and LEO.  As a result there will be nine students advancing to the State competition in Dallas on April 12-15, 2012.

Flying Dollar Ranch’s World Championship Win

Flying Dollar Ranch brought home a World Championship and two Reserve World Championships to Italy last weekend after competing at the Gypsy Horse Registry of America’s World Championship Show held January 27-29 at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

This past weekend the Flying Dollar Ranch held a Halloween Horse Show.  It is a yearly event and the participants are urged to wear costumes.  In addition to the costume fun there are several other fun events that the participants competed in.  From the look of the pictures it was a good time for these equestrians.

George Scott Scholarship Dinner

If George Scott could have been at the Italy High School cafeteria Friday night I think he would have been proud. There were many graduates of Italy High School there, young and old eating BBQ to raise money for the George Scott Scholarship. There were even some recipients of the scholarship there helping to serve dinner, giving back what was given to them.

4-H’ers from around Texas came together in Waxahachie on Saturday, September 17, at the Ellis County Sportsman’s Club to compete in the Ellis County Shooting Sports 4-H Club Fun Shoot. Participants in the shotgun fundraiser event competed in 100 rounds of skeet and trap as well as fun games such as “Snipe” and “Wolf Chase.”

ECEYA Horse Show Fun and Playday

The Ellis County Equine Youth Association invites all area horse kids to participate in the ECEYA Fundraiser and Fun Horse Show on Saturday, September 10, at the Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy, Texas. The show begins at 9 a.m. and includes halter, western, English, leadline and speed events.

Skeet Shoot sponsored by an Ellis County 4H Club

Stafford Elementary 4th grader Hunter Hinz and his fellow members of the Ellis County Shooting Sports 4-H Club would like to invite shotgun enthusiasts to compete in their 4-H Fun Shoot Fundraiser on Saturday, September 17th. Come out and support this 4-H club and bust some clays at the Ellis County Sportsman’s Club located at 470 West Sterrett Road in Waxahachie. Registration begins at 8 am, followed by a mandatory safety review at 8:30 am, and competition gets underway at 9am.

H is for Horse!

True, but H can also stand for 4-H (head, heart, hands, health). 4-H is an educational organization designed to prepare the leaders of tomorrow through various activities involving ALL aspects of life! The Silver Spurs 4-H Club focuses on just one of those—horses.

Gladiator Band Boosters to meet for planning session

The Gladiator Regiment Band Boosters will meet on Monday, March 28 at 5:30pm in the Italy High School Library at 300 S. College Street. The meeting will serve as a planning session for the upcoming Spaghetti Supper and High School Dance (scheduled for April 9). All supporters of the award winning Gladiator Band is welcome to attend this meeting.

The Ellis County Equine Youth Association is proud to announce their 2011 officers. The youth met on March 19, at the Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy for their first meeting of the year. The group elected officers, played horse soccer, went on a trail ride, and had a hamburger cook-out.

Italy FFA has select meats available for sale

Sonny Dickerson, IHS Ag teacher, has announced that he has select meats, as well as a few dessert items, available for purchase. These item are overstock from the Italy FFA Chapter’s annual meat sales fundraiser that was conducted this past December. All has been stored in a deep freezer and is available for purchase now.

The Silver Spurs Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club of Ellis County earned numerous awards at the Johnson County 4-H Horse Committee horse judging competition at the Diamond-W Arena in Alvarado on Saturday, January 15.

Southern Cruisers of Ellis County head out along Hwy 77, on foot…

Italy — As part of the Don’t Mess With Texas, Adopt-a-Highway program, the Southern Cruisers Riding Club of Ellis County 326 covered two miles of Hwy 77 on Sunday, but not on their motorcycles. Club members and their families walked along the sides of Hwy 77 in their boots clearing debris and trash as they patriotically eagle-eyed the medians and ditches.

Flying Dollar Ranch Schooling Show

November 7 was a beautiful, sunny day for the Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy to host their make-up Halloween Schooling Horse Show and Playday, which was postponed due to heavy mud the previous weekend. Twenty-one entrants competed for ribbons and Halloween prizes in halter, English, western, speed and costume events.
