Italy Lions Club BBQ Cook-Off

He dedicated his accomplishments to his wife of 19 years, Glenda Ann Bowling (1953 – 2016), who passed away just two weeks before the cook-off.

The 2016 Italy Lions Club BBQ Cook-off, hosted by the Rockett Ranch Café in Milford, named Blooming Grove’s Terry Bowling Grand Champion, Lawton Oklahoma’s Anthony Hernandez Reserve Champion and Joe Chadwick as the recipient of the local Braggin’ Rights trophy!

Lions Club Annual BBQ Cook-off reschedule date pending

The Lions Club is looking for a new date to have their annual BBQ Cook-off. The weather did not cooperate this year with their original date and March 20 & 21 is not panning out to be a good date either. They are rescheduling the event and a new date will be posted as soon as possible.

Backyard smoker raffle offered by Lions Club

The Italy Lions Club will be raffling off a backyard smoker built by the Italy High School Ag Department’s dual-credit welding class. The tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. The raffle winner will be drawn after the conclusion of the annual Lions Club Bar-B-Que cook off this weekend (Saturday, February 22, 2014).

Friday morning the Italy Lions Club had a large vision bus parked at Stafford Elementary ready to supply students with glasses. This bus has an eye doctor, vision equipment, glasses and helpful Italy Lions Club members ready to make sure every student that needs glasses receives glasses. It is like an eye doctors office on wheels. Italy Lions Club has been doing this for five years now.

Italy Lions Club plans annual Breakfast with Santa

On Saturday, December 1, the Italy Lions Club will have their annual Breakfast with Santa. The all you can eat pancakes and sausage breakfast will be served at the Boze Community Center in downtown Italy from 7:00 to 10:00am. Come join Santa and the Italy Lions Club for this special holiday event.

Letter to the Editor: 4th Annual Lions Club BBQ Cook-off a success

The Italy Lions Club wishes to thank Lonestar BBQ Society for their support in our 4th Annual BBQ Cook-off. The cookers came from local and as far as Oklahoma, Abilene and Austin to name a few locations. The cookers were very generous with their donations and awesome BBQ. This year we had 50 cookers and that made it a qualifier for the Invitational Cook-offs later in the year.

This was the fourth year for the Italy Lion’s Club’s (sanctioned by the Lone Star BBQ Society) annual cookoff. According to Arval Gowin (Lions Club president) it was a great success. They had the most entries (cookers) they have ever had. This year there were fifty cooks!

Last Friday and Saturday the Upchurch Ball Park was overflowing with BBQ grills, RV’s and people galore. It was the Italy Lions Club’s third annual BBQ cook-off. They had the biggest turn out of cookers this time – they had fourty-four cookers.

3rd Annual Lions Club BBQ Cook-off scheduled for February 25 & 26

The third annual Italy Lions Club BBQ Cook-off in scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 25th and 26th. This event is sanctioned by the Lone Star BBQ Society. As in years past, the cook-off will be staged at the Upchurch Ball Park at 201 E. Dilworth Road in Italy. New this year will be a kids cook-off on Friday evening.

Italy Lions Club Broom and Mop sale – A Success

Friday and Saturday Italy Lions Club members were busy selling their mops and brooms for the blind. Italy citizens came out and as usual were supporting this good cause. Italy ISD, Milford ISD and First Baptist Church of Milford were some of the bigger buyers.

Lions Club’s annual Breakfast with Santa

Lions Club and Glasses

Recently at Stafford Elementary the Lions Club pulled up in their big bus to give eye exams and glasses to the students who needed them. Dr. Donna Haas has her practice, ‘Trinity Vision’ located in the Addison area, but travels to Italy in the bus to help children in need.

Saturday, June 27th around six o’clock at the Church of Christ Annex building the Italy Lions Club had their first awards and installation of officers banquet. Alice Conway District Governor for the Lions Club District 2X1 was there to officially install the incoming officers.

Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

How many pancakes can you eat? Come on and find out on this Saturday morning, March 14th at 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM at the Wayne Boze building downtown Italy. This is where the Lions Club will be holding their pancake breakfast. There will be door prizes, contests and games for the children. It all adds up to a lot of fun.

The Italy Lions club will be out at various locations in Italy Saturday the 14th selling raffle tickets for a cruise for two. The value of the cruise is $2,000. The winner will work with a travel agent to pick a destination and make all the arrangements.
