Friday morning the Italy Lions Club had a large vision bus parked at Stafford Elementary ready to supply students with glasses. This bus has an eye doctor, vision equipment, glasses and helpful Italy Lions Club members ready to make sure every student that needs glasses receives glasses. It is like an eye doctors office on wheels. Italy Lions Club has been doing this for five years now.

Dr. Donna Haas (eye doctor) has been donating her time at Stafford Elementary, right along with the Italy Lions Club, making sure students receive their glasses. She said, “The Lions Club is the best. It is the only organization whose motivation is to help people see. They are just about the kids and about kids being able to see, no other reason.”

This year Italy Lions Club had a lot of help from the Italy High School National Honor Society and Student Council members. They volunteered their time and in return earned community service hours. Jessica Wilkins, Monserrat Figueroa, Adriana Celis, Taylor Turner and Paige Westbrook all helped sign-in the students and helped them get to the vision bus.

Jonathan Nash (Stafford Elementary principal) said, “I am glad our kids can get help getting glasses. I am very impressed with the Lions Club. They are so organized and Dee Dee Hamilton (school nurse) has done a great job co-ordinating everything with the Lions Club and the school staff. The Lions Club has been so helpful with providing glasses for our students.”
