Recently at Stafford Elementary the Lions Club pulled up in their big bus to give eye exams and glasses to the students who needed them. Dr. Donna Haas has her practice, ‘Trinity Vision’ located in the Addison area, but travels to Italy in the bus to help children in need.

The Lions Club of Italy sponsors this every year. Mark Souder (vice president) said, “We are just glad to be here again this year. We have had a good turn out, it looks like we are going to be able to put glasses on about twenty to twenty five kids. That is what we are here for, to help in the community as much as we can. The Lions Club has always been known for glasses for the kids and we are just glad we have the opportunity to do this.”

Dr Haas said, “I work with the Lions club pretty regularly and I have been for several years. I come with the bus and do the eye exams and the Lions provide the glasses. It is really kind of fun. Lions are the best because they do this right out of their heart, there is no other reason they do it other than to help kids to see. This is why I like working with them because their motivation is pure and they help kids and families that might not be able to provide glasses other wise.”

Arval Gowin, President of Lions Club of Italy said, “We have a real good turn out this year, it is probably our best turn out yet. We would love to see more kids come out. It doesn’t take a whole lot, you fill out some paperwork and if the children fall into the income criteria they get free glasses for a year and they can come back every year and continue to get free glasses and eye exams. We just want to serve the community and this is one way the Lions Club can do it. It is a world wide effort.”

Arval Gowin went on to say, “At our last meeting we found out from our district governor that in our last fiscal year Lions Club worldwide donated more than one billion dollars to charities.”

Thank you Lions!
