Cawley wins scholarship at San Antonio Livestock Show
Years of hard work and commitment paid off for 16-year-old Jacqualyn Cawley of Italy during the San Antonio Livestock Show in February when she won a $10,000 scholarship with her heifer Jewls. There were over 160 Beefmasters in her division.
“When they announced our name in the arena I just burst into tears. And I never cry! It was hard to even pick out a good picture because I was crying in all of them!” said Jacqualyn.
Jacqualyn is a junior at Italy High School and hopes to attend Texas Tech University and major in pre-vet after graduating. She and her mom, Tammie Watts, raise their own cattle at the Tic Tac Toe ranch in Italy. Her father is Bill Cawley of Crockett.
Jacqualyn’s heifer, Jewls, was born on March 1, 2008, and is expecting a calf later this year. She shows under Ellis County 4-H and is a dual member in both the Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club and the Livestock 4-H Club. When not busy traveling to stock shows and prepping her livestock, she enjoys riding her big Paint horse, Simba.
