November 7 was a beautiful, sunny day for the Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy to host their make-up Halloween Schooling Horse Show and Playday, which was postponed due to heavy mud the previous weekend. Twenty-one entrants competed for ribbons and Halloween prizes in halter, English, western, speed and costume events.

Many exhibitors commented on how much fun they were having and how much they were learning at a schooling show.

“This has been so much fun we want to come to more shows here. This has been a great place for me kids to practice showing, while not getting stressed out about it. They are just having fun!” said Theresa Lewis of Palmer, who competes regularly on a national level with her Paint Horses.

Fruitiest — Hunter Hinz won the Fruitiest Fun costume as Tucan Sam and his horse Fruit Loops. (Julie Hinz)

Royalty — Allyssa Ballew of Midlothian won the Most Royal costume as the Burger King and Queen (the horse’s name really is King). (Julie Hinz)

Halter winners — Mary Roberts of Waxahachie and her mare Graceful Afternoon won the Color at Halter class. (Julie Hinz)

Lisa and Miss Specialty — Lisa Olschewsky, a foreign exchange student from Germany, won the Mares at Halter class with Miss Specialty. Lisa is living with the Hinz Family of Italy during her stay. (Julie Hinz)

Chasston Wilson — Chasston Wilson of Italy won the straight away and cloverleaf barrels. (Julie Hinz)

Hula Girls — Most Fun in the Sun costume winner was Lisa Olschewsky and Sadie Hinz with Houdini as “Hula Girls.” (Julie Hinz)

Ninjas — Courtney Griffith of Midlothian and Elizabeth Terry of Waxahachie won a prize for their Ninja costume. (Julie Hinz)
