The Coliseum, Girls Championship – The Waxahachie JV Lady Indians hit the floor running racking up 19-points in the first period. Italy’s Jimesha Reed scored 2-points in the lane and Becca DeMoss hit a 3-pointer and a right wing jump shot, but Waxahachie led at the end of the first period 19-7.

DeMoss scored Italy’s only points in the 2nd period when she hit a jumper at the 1:09 mark. Later, DeMoss hit 2 free throws after being fouled on a 3-point shot. However, Waxahachie’s JV Lady Indians didn’t miss a tom-tom beat, and were able to take a huge advantage into halftime with a 31-11 lead.

The Lady Gladiators started the 2nd period with a more determined effort and managed to shave a few points off the Waxahachie lead. However, the Lady Indians still controlled the game going into the 4th with a 42-25 lead.

The Lady Gladiator effort continued in the 4th period, making an even bigger dent into the Lady Indians lead. Italy’s Kaitlyn Rossa was giving 110% defensively and Shay Fleming played to exhaustion for Coach McDonald. However, the Waxahachie JV Lady Indians had too many weapons and finished strong to win the Italy Invitational Girls Championship 53-39 over the Italy Lady Gladiators.

The off-the-bench player of the game for Italy was Marisela Perez, who really helped the Italy defensive cause in the 2nd half.

The Lady Indians Head Coach Pattilyn Wilkinson said, “I thought the girls did an awesome job, and it was the best game we played all year! I was very pleased how well our defense denied the passing lanes forcing turnovers. Offensively, I felt the girls shot the ball extremely well.” The Championship win gives the Waxahachie JV Lady Indians a 9-4 record for the season.”
