Senior Guard/Forward Emily Cunningham had the privilege to play in the Maypearl Texas Basketball All-Star Round-up this past weekend.

With last week marking the final week in UIL Girls basketball, I would like to share with you the final acknowledgements from our own Lady Gladiator Basketball Team from the 19-2A District!

Please come and check out our girls play Hubbard in a warm up game on Friday, February 8th in Italy at 8pm. Then, on Tuesday, February 13, the Round 1 Playoff game for the Lady Gladiators will be against Grapeland at the Fairfield High School.

We have been notified by school personnel that the Lady Gladiator Softball Hamburger Dinner along with scheduled Basketball games against Frost originally slated for Tuesday, January 23th have been moved back one day. These events will now be held on Wednesday, January 24th.

Attached are pictures of our Lady Gladiators visit to Italy Nursing home last week. We also want to send out a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the community from the High school and JH school girls basketball teams.

When Emmy Cunningham started Kindergarten at Stafford Elementary, she already knew she loved playing basketball. She began playing at the age of 4 and loved it immediately. That love of basketball is still very evident today to her family, coaches, teammates and supporters.

On behalf of the Italy Lady Gladiators Basketball Program, WNBA player Andrea Riley will be conducting her 1st Annual Working2Win Girls Basketball Clinic at Stafford Elementary on Monday, June 26, and on Tuesday, June 27. Register Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. prior to the first workout session.

Italy seniors Aarion Copeland and Keith Davis II make a day of it during the 16th Annual Maypearl Texas Roundup All-Star game on Saturday. Copeland scored 25 points to lead all scorers during the girls’ game while Davis totaled 6 points in the boys’ game including a 3-pointer.

The Italy Lady Gladiators basketball team receives All-District recognition for their efforts during the 2016-2017 season with Emily Cunningham earning Offensive Player Of the Year, Aarion Copeland earning Newcomer of the Year, and Decorea Green receiving 2nd Team All-District honors.

EXTRA EXTRA…. our Area Champion Lady Gladiators will be taking on Centerville in the Quarterfinals starting at Tuesday February 21, at 5:00 p.m. in Jewett Leon. The Co-District Champion Gladiators will follow starting at 6:30 p.m. in a Bi-District matchup against Lovelady. 1 Night + 1 entry fee = 2 GAMES!!

A Gladiator fan bus will depart from IHS at 2:15 p.m. on February 21st. The bus will return after the 6:30 p.m. game.

Congratulations to our Bi- District Champion Lady Gladiators who defeated Lovelady 71-55 to claim Bi-District Championship Monday night! Italy challenges Mart for the Area Championship Thursday, February 16, at West HS starting at 7:30 p.m.

The Mavs Maniaacs, featuring Italy’s own, Shedric Walker (A Maniaac since 2013), are set to perform live during Italy’s PACK THE DOME NIGHT on Friday, January 6, 2017. Italy will be playing four games against visiting Kerens while honoring Italy High School’s 1997 State Champion Boys Basketball Team.

Here is the bracket breakdown for the 2016 Italy Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament being held at the Italy Coliseum dome from Thursday, November 17, thru Saturday, November 19.

The 6th Man of the Year district superlative honor went to Italy’s April Lusk while Emmy Cunningham and Brycelen Richards received 1st Team All-District. In total, 10 Lady Gladiators were recognized with 4 players making the Academic All-District list.

The Lady Gladiators gave a tremendous effort against the Era Lady Hornets in a tussle for the Class 2A bi-district championship. Despite a game-high 30-points from Italy’s Emmy Cunningham, Era held on for a 65-62 win.

The Lady Gladiators put it all together in a tuneup game against visiting Milford as Italy prepares for their bi-district playoff matchup against Era on Tuesday.

The Lady Gladiators celebrated Senior Night 2K16 as they honored their seniors during their final home game against Itasca. Chardonae Talton led Italy’s JV Girls with 9-points, Anthony Lusk Led Italy’s JV Boys with 24-points, Emmy Cunningham led the Lady Gladiators with 22-points and Keth Davis, Jr. led the Gladiators with 35-points for his first 30+ game of the season.

Hosted here in Italy, basketball action will fill the Gladiator dome and George Scott gym on Saturday, January 23rd, 2016. Attached are the brackets for both JV boys and JV girls games. Get out of the cold and come watch a game or two.

Modifications submitted to this Friday’s Basketball schedules. Italy will host Frost in four consecutive district battles with the JV Girls game tipping the excitement off at 4:00 p.m.

Congratulations to Italy Lady Gladiator basketball players Kortnei Johnson and Emmy Cunningham for earning TGCA (Texas Girls Coaching Association) All-State Honors!

The 2014-2015 Italy Lady Gladiator basketball team left their mark in a big way on the 12-2A All-District list with senior Kortnei Johnson topping the list as District MVP and head coach Melissa Fullmer being named Coach of the Year!

The 2A Region II Area Playoff Game between the Italy Lady Gladiators and the Santo Lady Cats had 51 foul shots attempted and was tied on the scoreboard a total of 10 times before Santo pulled away in the final moments to advance.

Congratulations to the Italy Lady Gladiators who defeated Dallas Gateway to become 2014-2015 undefeated District Champions and automatic Bi-District Champions. It was also Senior Night inside the Coliseum with K’Breona Davis, Alex Minton, Kortnei Johnson and Tara Wallis being honored.

Italy Junior High basketball teams wrap up their 2015 season at home in the dome. The 8th graders took their final shots, their last dribbles and grabbed their last rebounds of their junior high careers but left behind plenty of memorable moments.

What a game, what a team and what a special moment it was for the Lady Gladiators Tuesday night after a buzzer-beating running layup by Kortnei Johnson completed a 64-62 comeback effort for Italy who got more than they bargained for from rival Frost.

The Lady Gladiators play near purr-fect on the road to blowout the Itasca Wampus Cats 71-21 for a district win.

The Italy Lady Gladiators (21-7, 3-0) improve their district mark to 3-0 after pulling away from the visiting Dallas Gateway Charter Academy Lady Gators in the second-half.

Both the Italy JV Gladiators and Lady Gladiators played well during their Italy hosted basketball tournament this past weekend with the JV Lady Gladiators winning the tournament championship in the girls bracket.

Italy’s Junior High Girls play hard at home against the Junior High Lady Jags from Hubbard during an exciting night of full court action inside the Coliseum.

Unselfish play catapulted the Lady Gladiators to 2-0 in district play after an impressive combination of power, hustle and teamwork proved to much for the Frost Lady Polar Bears.

The Lady Gladiators defeat rival Itasca with ease inside the Coliseum to begin district play 1-0.
