Frost — The Italy Lady Gladiators (20-7,2-0) displayed poise and confidence while rising to the challenge against a very skilled Frost Lady Polar Bears’ squad in the second district game of the season.

Italy head coach Melissa Fullmer had her ladies playing team ball on the wooden tundra with all pistons firing in Frost. Italy fed the ball inside early to their powerful post player Cory Chance who scored the first four points of the game. Senior K’Breona Davis ignited the girls in gold early by creating turnovers and pushing the ball up the court. Benefitting from the play of Davis were Emmy Cunningham and Kortnei Johnson who took care of business at the offensive end.

Taleyia Wilson was also giving an determined effort on the defensive end by closing out on the long-ball shooters of Frost. Wilson was also a warrior in the paint on both ends by battling for rebounds. Janae Robertson and Lillie Perry were also active down low when called upon by Coach Fullmer and T’Keyah Pace was inserted for her defensive talents.

Cunningham finished the first-half with 24-points to help Italy take a 39-28 lead into halftime. Freshman Brycelen Richards added a three-pointer in the second, the first of her varsity career. “That was a goal of ours. We wanted to build a 10 to 12-point lead and try to maintain that advantage throughout,” explained Coach Fullmer after the contest.

Chance had 4-points as did Davis. Johnson finished with 14-points and Cunningham closed out the game with 34-points. The Lady Gladiators are currently 2-0 in district play after a total team effort against Frost, 59-44.
