Italy vs. Itasca in the dome while Lady Gladiators celebrate Senior Night 2K16

Game 1:
Italy — Italy’s JV Lady Gladiators were fueled by a hustling guards Chardonae Talton and Taylor Boyd as they opened the night up with an intense battle against visiting Itasca.

Talton led Italy’s offensive attack with 9-points and Boyd scored 2-points for the cause. Emily Guzman, a bit of a utility player for the squad, scored 4-points while Jada Jackson and Heavenlea Brown put in 2-points each. Despite the effort, Italy could not keep pace with the point production of the JV Lady Cats who took the win, 34-17.

Game 2:
Italy’s JV Gladiators were led by Anthony Lusk who dropped in 24-points against Itasca, including 6 three-pointers. Guard Al Waits dropped in another 10-points to help lead Italy’s offensive attack.

Head Coach Larry Mayberry demands perfection from his players and they nearly achieved in the third-period to distance themselves from the Wampus Cats. Italy outscored Itasca 19-5 in the frame and then coasted the rest of the way to a 59-34 victory.

Game 3:
The Italy Lady Gladiator seniors were honored before their game against Itasca to celebrate Senior Night 2K16. Shercorya Chance, Lillie Perry, Janae Robertson, manager Brenya Williams and Taleyia Wilson were each escorted by family members to midcourt as fans showed their appreciation with generous applause.

The contest was fast and furious with Italy tying the game up, 38-38, late in the second-half but the Lady Cats quickly took control soon after. Head Coach Melissa Fullmer’s squad made a solid push in the fourth but Itasca was able to match Italy basket-for-basket to hold off Italy’s late rally for a 65-57 win.

Game 4:
The Gladiators relied on relentless defensive pressure to tame the Wampus Cats with Keith Davis, Jr., leading Italy with 35-points on the offensive end. It was the first 30+ game for Davis on the season which included 6 three-pointers. Kendrick Norwood added 13-points with two 3-pointers and guard Kevin Johnson helped run the offense while dropping in 10-points. The big man David De La Hoya scored 7-points while working the boards.

Head coach David Ervin and his staff have some magic happening in Italy as the Gladiators disposed of the Cats 77-56 to make their district mark 3-1. Italy’s only district loss was a 2-point loss to ranked Dallas Gateway.
