Caitlin McCown, of Duncanville, was involved in a single car rollover about 10:45am Friday morning traveling northbound on I-35 across Chambers Creek Bridge just north of Italy. McCown, a Southwestern University student in Austin, was heading home for the holidays when a semi-trailer in front of her clipped a road cone landing it near the middle of the right lane.

The vehicle directly behind the semi swerved right and avoided the cone. McCown, who was driving the third vehicle back, she swerved left and then hard right causing her beloved Isuzu Trooper, affectionately known as the, “Super-Duper Trooper,” to overturn before hitting the railing.

The unfortunate chain of events left McCown upside down on the bridge. The driver behind McCown was able to block traffic keeping McCown from any further harm.

McCown was amazingly calm during the aftermath expressing, “I’m just glad I didn’t go through the railing and over the side, that looked like a long way down.”
McCown considered herself lucky, however, as exhibited by the lucky clover adorning her Isuzu’s trailer hitch and went on to say, “I’m really gonna miss this truck, it was a hoss.”

It’s never clear why bad things happen to good people, but Caitlin McCown is a very sweet young lady and I’m so glad she stayed safe suffering only a scratch across her foot. McCown is looking forward to traveling abroad next year and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.
