New Year’s Eve Ball — The New Year’s Eve Ball in Times Square is brand new, as of Nov. 11, 2008. The geodesic sphere weighs 11, 875lbs and is covered in 2,668 Waterford Crystals. It is capable of creating more than 16 million colors and billions of patterns-almost a kaleidoscope effect. (Anne Sutherland)
