Navarro College – Three games in three days seemed to take it’s toll on the young Italy Lady Gladiator squad. A sluggish start gives Italy a deficit they are unable to overcome. The Dawson Lady Bulldogs are winning 9-3 after the first period.

Italy’s #40 Jimesha Reed scores down on the right block at the 7:06 mark of the 2nd period, making the score 9-5. Dawson quickly follows with another basket and the score is 11-5. Italy’s #5 Becca Demoss gets fouled shooting at the 5:30 mark. DeMoss hits both free shots to make the score 11-7. With 3:33 left in the 2st, Dawson scores making it 15-7. Dawson puts in 1 free throw and Italy’s #12 adds one free throw, at the 2:27 mark, which makes the scoe 16-8.

With :12 left before the break, DeMoss scores a layup making the count 16-10. Italy’s #32 Shay Fleming rebounds a Dawson miss and DeMoss gets fouled on the outlet pass with 5 seconds left. In the bonus, DeMoss hits 1-of-2 free throws to make the halftime score 16-11.

HALFTIME

Right away in the 3rd, Italy’s #3 Kaitlyn Rossa gets fouled shooting and hits 1-of-2 free throws to make the score 16-12. Italy trades buckets with Dawson making the score 18-14. Then DeMoss gets loose on a fast break and makes the layup at the 5:30 mark. The score is 18-16 but Italy’s momentum is short lived as the Lady bulldogs go on a 13-0 run after Dawson’s #5 gets the rebound, gets fouled on the put back, and hits the and-1. The score is 31-16 heading into the final period.

At the 7:15 mark of the 4th period, DeMoss passes inside to Fleming for two points. The score is 31-18. Mildred scores again but Rossa gets a steal and gets the ball to Demoss who finishes the fast break and makes the score 33-20, 6:30 left.

At the 5:37 mark, Dawson’s #24 gets a 3-point play the old-fashion way and the Lady Bulldogs are in control 36-20. Reed hits 2 free throws and Fleming scores but Dawson matches their efforts and the score is 40-24 with 2:02 left.

Italy makes one final push to get back in the game. Italy’s #10 Kyonne Birdsong scores a layup but Dawson answers making it 42-26 with 1:26 left. In the bonus, DeMoss gets fouled on the dribble and hits 1-of-2 free throws, the score is 42-27. Reed grabs a rebound sticks the follow making it 42-29.

With :50 left, Fleming scores for Italy to make it 42-31. Reed gets fouled trying to shoot and hits both free throws, the score is 42-33. With :30 remaining, DeMoss steals Dawson’s inbound pass and makes the layup, the score is 42-35. However, The final seconds ticked away and Dawson held on for the 2008 Kiwanis Classic Consolation Championship win.
