The weather in Italy has been quite extraordinary this week. One day with 80 degrees and a few days later sleet. This sleet along with freezing rain caused local schools to close and power outages in the area.

And today, yet another weather related phenomenon inside Italy city limits. Have you ever seen a steam fog? Driving by Germania Insurance on Hwy 34 on Wednesday, one could have seen such a thing. The fog enhanced and hid the earth while the grass was still visible all around.

According to NOAA (National Weather Service Forecast Office), “steam fog forms when cold air moves over warm water or earth, as in this case. When the cool air mixes with the warm moist air, the moist air cools until its humidity reaches 100% and fog forms. This type of fog takes on the appearance of wisps of smoke rising off the surface of the land or water.”

You know the old saying, “If you don’t like the weather in Texas just wait a minute”. Tomorrow will be a high of 52 with a warming trend into Saturday, according to www.wfaa.com, Channel 8 News.
